I had a 2nd degree tear with dc1.

Am I less likely to tear with dc2?

Or is that wishful thinking it works that way? Grin

I've no idea if you are more or less likely but I had a third degree tear and a big internal graze ( forceps) with dc1 and had a tiny little tear with dc2 that I really didn't even notice! Good luck!

I didn't tear with my second.

I was dreading that as I did with my first and the stitches were more painful than giving birth to me.

With DS2 there was a little year but they decided it would be ok without stitches and it was.

Hope you don't either.

Been worrying about this too, also had second degree tear with first baby and hoping to avoid similar this time, so the responses give me hope!

They give me hope too! I didn't feel the tear ay the time, but boy I knew the stitches were there afterwards!

Heres hoping!

I've just had dc1 and had third degree tear. consultant told me you're more likely to tear with a second if you have with your first, but the odds get better if you leave yourself a long time to heal. but my sis had a third degree tear with dc1 and nothing with dc2 less than 2 years later. don't know what to believe really!

You are less likely to tear with your second than your first, but if you did tear with your first the odds of tearing are increased. (Does that make sense??)

I had a second degree tear with dd and then a small tear not requiring stitches with ds, who was 2lb heavier.
