In hospital with my wife now for an induction. Pessary had to be removed after 4 hrs due to hyperstimulation. Midwife couldn't feel cervix moved or dilated at all. Waiting to see doc now.
Anyone else been in this situation? What happened?
Thanks!

Sadly I think the not been able to see a Dr thing for hours is fairly common.

You'd normally get seen by someone from your team on morning ward round. Then if you need seeing again due to complications its a case of waiting till someone's free, unless its an emergency. A Dr from another team won't see you, during the day it needs to be your consultant or their reg. and the chances are they're busy in clinics or gynae theatre lists all day. The only other Dr who might see you is the on call reg for labour ward and again chances are they're quite busy with deliveries and emergencies.

Standard set up for most hospitals, I agree its not nice having to wait when you don't know what's happening but I wouldn't say its poor management or even poor staffing at that specific hospital. More staff would be lovely in every maternity unit but its not going to happen.

Hope things have progressed overnight.

Thanks for the explanations about CSs, appreciated.

Viva - things have started to progress slowly now, finally! We seem to have been missed out of a lot of ward rounds. When were here last week for high BP, the docs did 3 ward rounds and on every one of them got called away just before they got to us. After that had happened twice, you'd think they might have started with us on the 3rd round...

Not sure about a particular doc seeing us - we haven't seen the same doc twice since we've been here! Every time it's been a different one.

Not had experience of any other maternity units to compare, but I'm surprised at not seeing a doctor all day until 5pm with nothing happening...
