Contractions starting...and then stopping

I'm 40+5 today. 3 evenings in a row now I've started mild contractions, got all excited, gone to bed convinced this could be it and woken up in the morning with no contractions.

My midwife said it can happens a few times as my body gets ready. I'm 2 cm dilated.

I'm getting impatient now.

Has this happened to others, and if so... will it be soon?! Smile xxx

will be watching this thread!

I'm 40+6, exact same thing is happening to me. On Sunday afternoon I had contractions every 10min or so, went to bed thinking I'd never be able to go to sleep.

Slept like a baby, woke up rested and contractions-free this morning. Now (Monday afternoon) they're starting again, but only every 15 minutes or so. I actually feel like I took a step back! So frustrating... starting to feel like it's never going to happen Angry

It's happening to me again tonight...

One night it'll be real! I had no idea it could be like this though.

I'm just not sure how I'll know when it does start for real. Some people have said that I'll know when it starts, but I'm haven't found that very helpful so far to be honest.

Good luck Chacha!

ditto nearlythere.

thanks Nearlythere, hope something is happening for you!

my midwife says that evening contractions are a classic sign that the body is gearing up, but that it doesn't mean anything is happening imminently. Sigh.

Snap! I'm now 39+5 and have had two evenings of regular contractions, coming to nothing. I've had the energy bursts, I've had the upset stomach, now I'm grouchy and miserable.

Really hope this baby comes soon. Fingers crossed for us all.

I'm 40+1 now and the same thing has happened to me for the last 3 days, although usually earlier in the day and then they tail off in the evening. Yesterday they were becoming really sharp and I thought 'this is it!' Ha. This is my second pg, with DS I didn't have any real forewarning, my waters burst and then unmistakeable contractions started within a couple of hours.

I have an appointment with the MW tomorrow and she will do a sweep if things look favourable. I also saw a consultant yesterday to agree a plan if I go significantly overdue (eg 10 days). I really don't want to have to go along with it!

Good luck to the rest of you!

Can I ask..... have you lost your mucus plug/ has a bloody show. Do the contractions feel like period pains?

Looking at the dates you may already be cuddling your babies, but if I do get a response that would be great.
