C section scar hardly faded after a year??

I had an ELCS for breech a year ago. The scar no longer hurts or itches, and I have no loss of sensation. But the scar itself, except in one small area in the middle, is still really red. Not sore looking or raised, just red in colour. Is this normal? I thought it would be mostly faded by now... I haven't put much on it so far but maybe I should start? Eg bio oil?

TIA for any experiences/tips :)

Mine's the same, 2.5 years on. What kind of stitches did you have? Mine were dissolvable ones (but didn't dissolve and some had to be removed due to infection).

Hi DIY, yes I had dissolvable ones too, and had an infection and an area where they didn't dissolve :(
Have you heard that's a common thing with dissolvable ones?

My scar is still a little bit pink in places and I had CS 4 and a half years ago.

My mum had a hysterectomy 15 years ago and her scar is still red!

Dillydallyingaround · 26/09/2013 19:13

Oh, is this normal then? I thought it usually dissapeared?

Not c section but operation on my neck and long scar - I put bio oil on it twice a day and 4 months later it has faded a lot. Worth a try?

IamSlave · 26/09/2013 19:24

I cant even see where my scar was a year on..

KhoPeePee · 26/09/2013 19:25

Oh I thought it was normal to still be quite dark 3 years on, are you supposed to put bio oil on?

Chopsypie · 26/09/2013 20:49

They usually do fade. But, sometimes they don't. I was part of a trial using a silicone gel called kelo-cote which helped reduce the redness and bumpiness of mine.

Thanks all.

IamSlave - out of interest, did you have dissolvable stitches?

Any more experiences? Does anyone know any reason why some scars fade and some don't? Confused

Think will definitely try bio oil or maybe kelo-cote or similar.

Silicon is what you need.
