Probably fine but just in need of reassurance...

So I'm now 8 days over due..woke up at 7am with mild to moderate contractions lasting around 40 seconds and coming between 5 to 12 mins apart. Phoned labour triage for advice and midwife said to phone back when regular 5 mins apart and painful. I haven't had a show but have had 2 sweeps, last of which was around 48 hours ago.
They stayed about the same till midday but have then gradually tailed off and have now completely disappeared! So what's that all about? Am I not actually in labour? Is this normal? It's my first baby and i'm really anxious and clueless. Thought I may have been heading to hospital by now, instead i'm wondering if i dreamt it! I'm sure it's fine but any advice would be really appreciated.

This happened to me with my ds1. The next day ot started up again and he was born but I felt very disheartened bby the lack of progress on day 1. I dodnt have a show.

Thanks Sams. I just thought once it started that would be it..so to have them completely stop has just thrown me! don't know what to do with myself, just been bouncing on ball and will go for a walk in the morning to try and get things going again...induction booked for monday but i'm really hoping it dosen't get to that.
It's nothing like on TV/Film where waters dramatically go and bub arrives an hour later eh?!

Looks like we are at the same stage!! We both have till Monday to hope our babies make a move before induction. I'm booked in for 8am on Monday and I'm really hoping that i go into labour naturally.

A few days ago I started to get contractions but then it stopped after 4 hours or so and haven't had anything like it since!! Been on the ball, walking and even been for a hot curry this evening. All in vain as I'm still here trying to find ways to bring on this baby naturally. Deep down I think I know I'm not going to go into labour on my own :(
