Is it possible to be pregnant forever? This is how I feel today!!

Haven't lost my mucus plug or waters but have been getting some stronger BH. Still don't think my body realises it has a job to do.

How long did you go over? Did you have an idea or did you have no build up? I've been really good so far but I'm definitely analysing anything and everything! :)

Ah, it's such an exciting time!! I was exactly the same though and literally analysed every little thing. I went into labour the day before my EDD with my 1st and 6days over with 2nd and both times I didn't loose my plug until I was having full on contractions. head still wasn't engaged at 6cm and I had no 'clues' in the run up so it could be any day for you! Good luck

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 15/09/2013 23:37

First time, I went 4 days past my EDD - no dramatic breaking of waters and no mucus plug. Just snuggled up watching a film and around 11 pm thought ooh contractions. Put on the TENS machine about an hour later and DH took me off to hospital around 2am. We lived about 30 minutes from the maternity wing so tbh had they sent me home, so what. As it happened although I wasn't dilated by much my bp had gone up so they kept me in.
"Do you feel all right?" "I don't know, is this normal, I've never had a baby before!!"

I was told if you can still talk throughout contractions and your waters haven't broken, wait for your contractions to get to between 3-4 minutes apart then leave for hospital.
DC1 was born safely around 2 pm.

DC2 arrived on her EDD. That morning my waters broke and although I went to hospital they said,
"No other signs so come back in 48 hours".

Seemed a bit of a damp squib but twelve hours later, contractions started and she was born that night.

Good luck RocketQueen87 hope your baby puts in an appearance soon Smile.

smallsmith · 16/09/2013 12:25

I am right there with you RocketQueen! I'm now 11 days overdue and haven't had a single pre labour sign - no show, no pains, no increase in braxton hix - nada. Head is engaged but three attempts at a sweep have failed. Beginning to think it's all been a cruel trick and there's no baby in there after all! Apparently you can just go into spontaneous labour with no warning, so there's hope yet - fingers crossed we both have a sudden and smooth labour soon! Good luck Smile

ShowOfHands · 16/09/2013 12:30

Your body does know it has a job to do; to finish growing your baby before labour starts. It really helps to think of a 'due period' instead of a due date. The 40 week thing is just an aid to arranging care. In France, for example, your due 'date' is 41 weeks. A normal pregnancy lasts between 37 and 42 weeks. Ignore anybody who is sending texts or uttering the crap line 'haven't you had it yet?' and delight in the marvellous job your body IS doing.

And fwiw, I had no signs of labour either time. I went from eating dinner in one instance and asleep in the other to waters breaking spectacularly and immediate contractions. No show, signs, BHs etc. From nothing to labour in a nanosecond. Whatever happens, you have only days to go. Days. And then you'll have a baby. A real, live, gurgling baby. How ruddy marvellous.

Lucyadams184 · 16/09/2013 20:38

Ah I feel for you I went nine days over with my son and was induced in the end. You are obviously making a very cosy bed for your little one.

LouiseD29 · 17/09/2013 09:05

OP, I empathise. Went 10 days over with DD1. Contractions started while I was waiting at hospital for my second sweep, had had no show or waters. LO was born that same day in a very quick, easy labour with no interventions. Waters finally went about 10 minutes before she was born - nearly drowned poor student midwife!

Good luck. It WILL happen and you will soon be holding your amazing new baby in your arms.

RocketQueen87 · 17/09/2013 11:16

Thank you ladies, I really think due date doesn't help as you spend 9 months gearing up to that one date and although you know very few people go on date, you still can't help feeling a little sad as you pass it!

I'm 6 days over today and go in tomorrow for a second sweep. Interestingly, last night I think my body made its first attempt to try something. For about 4 and a half hours I was having contractions every 10-15 minutes, tightening, back ache and a period like pain. By 9pm last night it stopped and I slept like a log all night. Nothing this morning. Not to sure what that was about??

ShowofHands- Interesting what you say about due date as originally I thought Id be due on 21st September and the scan moved me to the 11th. Maybe I'm just having a huge baby, not to sure if I love that idea :P

smallsmith- 11 days over wow, how are you getting on? Have you been induced now? They have booked me in for induction on Monday- so have given me 12 days to get this baby moving.

Think you're warming up for the big event. Keep your mobile phone charged up Rocket.

PoppettyPing · 17/09/2013 12:40

Oh god Rocketqueen and showsmith I'm right there with you. 41 weeks today according to scan (41 weeks on fri according to my LMP) and I'm so bored of being pregnant. Had two attempted sweeps and cervix is still closed despite lots of twinges and cramps, BH etc. I'm very much a "let nature take its course" person and am not at all keen on induction, so the impatience I'm experiencing is really surprising!

I think ShowofHands is spot-on. Our bodies know what they're doing and it's wonderful..I definitely think it's externally imposed schedules, both medical and social, that convince us otherwise. We need to trust that more, myself included...

good luck to you guys this week!

PoppettyPing · 17/09/2013 12:42

*Trust our bodies I mean! And our babies! They're not stupid..

RocketQueen87 · 18/09/2013 12:38

So I've had my 41 week appointment this morning and the midwife was able to do a sweep this time :D She also said I'm 1cm dilated, I never thought I'd be so excited by 1cm!! You guys still think I've got a long wait? I really want to go before induction on Monday.

I should also mention that I still have my mucas plug and waters and havent had any other contractions since the other night!!

poppettyping How are you getting on? Any progress?

How quick did you progress in labour?

PoppettyPing · 18/09/2013 14:13

Yay for 1cm!!
I can't believe I'm jealous of 1cm! haha.

I reckon you'll go quite quick now. Fingers crossed for you. It's maddening in its unpredictability isn't it?

No progress for me yet, I'm going in for another sweep attempt and the "Chat" on Friday. Both baby and I are really well so I'm going to refuse induction if it gets to that point--they can monitor me. I have a feeling this baby just wants to cook a little longer. (She's on Cornish time, so in no hurry whatsoever!Grin)

princesscupcakemummyb · 22/09/2013 13:55

i went to 40+5 with my first a sweep set me off luckily haha

2nd time i went to 41 weeks exactly not a sign of labour in sight untill that very morning good luck to you op or congrats if your baby has shown :)

RocketQueen87 · 22/09/2013 16:55

Still waiting Princesscupcakemummyb I'm due to go in to be induced tomorrow at 8am.

Any other babies arrived yet?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 22/09/2013 17:26

I was going to say book something non-refundable and expensive to do this week or arrange a rare special get-together - that often does the trick. But as you're due in tomorrow morning to be induced, best wishes x

PoppettyPing · 23/09/2013 13:05

Whoo, I finally bloody have a baby!

Strong squishy little girl arrived at 40+10 after 2 days of non progressing labour. It was an ordeal. She did NOT want to come out! Had to have syntocinon, epidural, ventouse, the lot. So much for my home birth.

Stubborn little madam is doing well though. She was deffo worth it.

How you guys coming along? Best wishes RocketQueen!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 23/09/2013 13:09

Bear Flowers congratulations Poppetty

igirisu · 23/09/2013 16:53

I went 11 days over and had no show until 5 days overdue then went into labour on the Thursday gave birth on the Sunday! My show came after I got down from sitting on a high stool after eating a big massive piece of cheesecake from druckers, it is possible to feel pregnant forever but you won't be! Being overdue is so frustrating because everyone tells you you will be in labour SOON but I wanted my son NOW which made me feel like a spoilt little madam!

igirisu · 23/09/2013 16:55

And congratulations I bet it seems like a distant memory being overdue now! Bless you both x
