Just out of curiosity, as I've noticed on a few threads people discussing their notes, do you automatically get to see your labour notes at some point or do you have to request them? Do you have to have a reason to want to see them?

I have an appointment with a consultant in November which will be 12 wks after I had my DD so wondering if I'll see them then? I had 3rd degree tear so guessing that's why I'm seeing consultant..

I requested to go over my notes with a contsultant midwife when I was pregnant for the second time, I think you might be able to go over them in some areas with an 'after birth' service - I think ours was called Birth Matters to go over the notes in detail, as a lot of women find it helps especially if they have had a traumatic time.

I don't think you get to see your notes automatically, you have to request it. I'd phone your midwife and ask to see them before your consultants app, you should be able to get a copy too. Then if you have any questions you have about them to your consultant.

Hope that helps.

I had to ask for a debrief, but it was all very easily arranged and not only did they go through my notes, they went through DD's too as she ended up in NICU and I wanted to understand why. I'm really pleased I did it so that I understand what happened and why and, to be honest, I know that where I thought they might have cocked up a bit, they had cocked up a bit. And apologised for it and made notes about it for next time around.

I don't know if you'll go through your notes with the consultant, but if not email your PALS and they can tell you how to request a debrief.
