Tell me your tales of big first babies, then having a smaller one next time?

Just that really. My first was 9 pound 7 and I'm a bit worried about the next. Currently 37 weeks and my midwife doesn't seem to think this one will be as big. My bump seems slight smaller this time round as well.

So if your next baby was smaller was it the same sex as your first? And was your bump any bigger or smaller second time?

Thanks!

I'm interested too!

My first (DS)was 9lb 3oz and this bump is huge, but I have excess fluid, so they don't think baby is overly big, more likely an average size.

I think this one is a girl, and wonder if that'll mean she is smaller ... Really don't mind either way though!

princesscupcakemummyb · 03/09/2013 17:54

my 1st baby was 8.5oz at 40+5 my second baby was 7 pounds 8 ounces at 41 weeks exactly il let you know about the 3rd in less then 9 weeks lol

Clobbered · 03/09/2013 18:01

DS1 40+6 8.8
DD 41+3 7.6
DS2 41+5 8.0

ClementineKelandra · 03/09/2013 21:40

Dd1 was 9lb 5 born 40+12
Ds was 8lb2 born 38 weeks
Dd2 was 7lb at 38 weeks.

duchesse · 03/09/2013 21:50

Mine got smaller each time:
DS 8lbs 12
DD1 7 lbs 9oz
DD2 7 lbs 8oz
DD3 7 lbs 6oz

I believe it's not all that usual for babies to get smaller though.

duchesse · 03/09/2013 21:51

Forgot to say all born at 40 + between 10 and 14 days.

Fairylea · 03/09/2013 21:54

Dd was 8lb 8oz at 34 weeks. I was induced with her as they thought if they left her to term she would be absolutely huge.

Ds was only just 6lb! (Full term c section).

I was absolutely huge during the pregnancy so I expected him to be massive. I couldn't believe it when I saw how tiny he was!

chicaguapa · 03/09/2013 21:56

DD was 8lb 10oz and then DS was 7lb 12oz. Both born on their due date.

I'm sure my bump felt smaller second time around, but then the first time wasn't big either and the midwives were surprised DD was so big.

HTH

Christ I really need to hear some of these good news stories! DC1 was 10lb 6oz

ouch

DC2 is in utero...17 weeks old. I really hope they aren't bigger than their brother!

TCOB · 03/09/2013 22:01

Both 41 weeks: DS 8.8lbs (ate like a horse, starving all the time, and honestly believed it would all just drop off when he was born); DD 7.7lbs, really active wonderful pregnancy, though very sick to start with. She was as long as him though so looked hilariously skinny. At three years old has legs like a supermodel! SO guess my point is that this is a leetle bit more evidence that larger DC1 does not mean ginormous DC2. Good luck!

SecretRed · 03/09/2013 22:01

Dd 9lb11oz 40+6
Ds1 8lb13oz 39+6
Ds2 8lb3oz 39+6

vaticancameo · 03/09/2013 22:02

DS was 8lb 14oz at 40+4. He presented with shoulder dystocia, got properly stuck and was yanked out, giving me a horrible tear.

When I got pregnant again, my bump was huge and I thought I was having another whopper. Having had previous SD, I opted for elcs. Dd was a dainty 7lb 6oz and I reckon I'd probably have sneezed her out if I'd opted for a vb...no regrets about the cs, but in hindsight I probably didn't need one.

exexpat · 03/09/2013 22:02

Mine were pretty much identical - both 4.1kg, which I think is about 9lbs 1 or 2? - even though DC1 (boy) was 1 day early and DC 2 (girl) was 9 days late, and a scan a day or so before I had DC2 said she was going to be over 4.6kg. The hospital were talking possible C-sections until a few minutes before she popped out.

Bump was pretty much identical size/shape with both, and I think my maximum weight hit pretty much the same figure too.

HorsesDogsNails · 03/09/2013 22:07

DS was 8lb 7oz at 39 weeks
DD was 6lb 13oz at 39 +3

She looked tiny compared to her brother!!

cupcake78 · 03/09/2013 22:08

Ds 9lb 5. In labour for days, was horrific!
Dd 8lb 8. 3 hour from start to finish.

RNJ3007 · 03/09/2013 22:08

DD born at 40+3 6lb5oz
DS born at 37+5 5lb13oz

TheContrastofWhiteonWhite · 03/09/2013 22:09

Second was a pound lighter and two days more overdue. Smile

Floralnomad · 03/09/2013 22:12

DS 10lb 3oz at 40+5
DD 7lb 14oz at 38+3 ( ELCS )
Bump was equally huge both times .

Pachacuti · 03/09/2013 22:14

DS 10lb 5oz @ 39+5
DD1 8lb 15oz (although same length as DS with same size head) @ 39+5
DD2 6lb 10oz @ 39+4

mummratheevertired · 03/09/2013 22:17

These stories are making me feel a lot better and giving me hope - Thanks all!

Dd 7lb 5oz at 42 weeks I was huge
DS 6lb 8oz at 42 weeks smaller bump than dd
DS 7lb 7oz at 41+2 bump was smaller
Dd 7lb 2oz at 41+2 bump was so small that when I went for a scan at 41 weeks they could not believe I was over my due date.

cantreachmytoes · 03/09/2013 22:22

Not sure it's all down to weight. Mine were almost identical weights but the first was broad with head in 97th percentile. Second was same weight but much longer with narrower head. It made a big difference!

Inkspellme · 03/09/2013 22:24

dd 10lb 8oz followed 5 years later by ds 9lb 11oz. this topic was discussed the other day by chance with friends. out of 5 women four had babies lighter than previous babies. Smile Smile

toobreathless · 03/09/2013 23:12

DD1 8 lb 8, induced, forceps, 1.5 litre bleed. Not 'huge' but big for me.

DD2, 7 lb 8, spotaneous 20 minute labour & born less than 99 seconds after arrival at hospital. Only went to hospital due to bleed with DD1.
