my 17mo is a bit of lump, but a lovely one and I want to pick her up and cuddle her. I'm really feeling good after this Cs - not so much the previous one - but am not sure how long to leave it.

Im 10 days in now and am planning on leaving it a couple more weeks but hope that will be enough..

when did you pick up yours?

I reckon it must have three to four weeks after but then I had help for four weeks post section. It's a tough time so I used to get him to climb on the sofa for a cuddle.

I was told 4 weeks but began picking up after about a week and a half (he was 18months old). You couldn't do it quickly or suddenly but I found if you stopped and braced before lifting it was ok. And I wouldn't have stood holding him for a long time but for a short, sharp lift we were ok.

My first was an emergency csection and the second was planned - there was far less trauma with the second which helped. (I could walk up stairs etc far quicker). Good luck :)

A good few weeks but mine was older and a lot heavier. You'll know if it's a bad idea when you do it as your scar will pull! Cuddles on the sofa are lovely in the meantime.

You just have to listen to your body. DD started reception when ds was 4 days old. I had a school run to trudge with ds in the sling and I made the mistake of greeting dd from school and swinging her round. My scar reopened. I was a bloody idiot tbh and was still fairly numb at that point. If full sensation has returned, I'd listen to your body and see how other movements/lifting feel for a while longer yet. Lots of sofa cuddles for now.

it is now 3 weeks after CS and picking up for short periods, i.e help onto my lap to get dressed, getting ready to brace the weight if she is jumping down stairs and it seems ok (DC1 approx 12kg)

i will try not do normal picking up until after the 6 week check up unless emergencies . . .

Please listen to doc's advice and don't lift for 6 weeks (or whatever you have been told). Yes, it's shit, but it's given for a reason. You have a far higher risk of complications (including long term ones) from lifting before everything is knitted back together inside. I know lots of people with ongoing scar pain etc, and every single one ignored advice not to lift. Anecdotal, but surgeon who advised me about no lifting etc post section said the same.

My section scar aches now 13mths post surgery after exercise but whether that is to do with lifting I don't know. I def didn't drive before six weeks both times.
