Postnatal swollen ankles

Wasn't really sure where to post this one, so I have put it in a couple of areas to try and attract the right opinons.
I had quite badly swollen ankles towards the end of my pregnancy, which actually got worse after birth. At the 10 day midwife visit (about their peak) my midwife wasn't interested (wasn't surprised by this she hasn't been interested by anything at all) HV was mortified by them on day 11, when I couldn't even get my trainers on. They started to get better when I started to get out & about & walk more, but they are still very swollen at 8 weeks (almost had to resort to buying mens sandals today). Had my "6 week" check a couple of days ago & GP is requesting blood tests for kidney function, although he doesn't think this is too likely. I am a touch(!?!) overweight at the moment which I know doesn't help but I was wondering if anyone else had persistent swollen ankles & when they may have resolved hemself?

Hi there, did u have a section? I know it took weeks for mine to go after a section and I kpet mentioning it and m/w wasn;t concerned. They did just go but GP would be best judge!!

No normal delivery G&A & TENS. My only 'intervention was because I had a problem peeing straight after delivery & had to have an 'in & out' catheter. Sorry if TMI

No don't woory I hear worse! I had that too first time. Do talk to GP again. I thinkg mine were swollen for around 6 weeks. I'm average weight but have very slim ankles and do tend to swell anyway!

Mine weren't swollen during pregnancy but were awful just after the birth. I'm not sure of the reasons, but put it down to hormone imbalance.
Are you keeping them elevated whenever possible and doing the ankle circling exercises?

If you are not breastfeeding you can take 'aqualette' which may help.

Ankle excerises did absolutely NOTHING. Walking was the only thing to help improve them, but even that improvement has stopped now even though I am making the effort to walk for at least 20 minutes a day at least 5 days a week. I am BFing so finding it difficult to do much to actively loose the weight (don't want to extreme diet). Hope to try & start fitting some swimming in around feeding though, but haven't been successful yet.
One ankle is worse than the other (and was thru preg) which kind of worries me a bit.
