Any advice for a newbie?

Hi everyone

I'm a long time lurker (since about 5 weeks pregnant) and am addicted to mn. Without knowing it you lovely folks have helped me through a difficult 9 months, answered questions I was too scared to ask and had me howling with laughter - and wondering if my friends & family are too boring for me to ever post about Smile

So I figured it was time to jump in & today seems a good time. I'm 37 weeks exactly today & my waters broke early this morning (that or I had a very embarrassing accident!!) I'm having contractions on & off & am being induced at 7am tomorrow. So I guess my question is what should I expect & do you have any advice for a first timer?

Thanks!

Ooh how exciting! Don't have any advice about induction but hope it all goes well for you, and who knows, your contractions might ramp up before then. Would make sure your DP/birth partner knows your birth plan in case things are faster than expected and no one reads it.

If you want to breastfeed don't be afraid to ask for lots and lots of help if you need it. Can take a while to click. I think I would have given up if it hasn't been for a very patient midwife in hospital, and mumsnet afterwards!

I wish you lots of luck. It is tough but an incredible experience.

Thanks for the advice AndI, yes DH is fully briefed!

I'm feeling oddly calm / excited but not scared - I guess that bit will come soon enough!

A great tip I read recently - have your DH/birth partner unpack and repack your hospital bag. That way they will know where everything is when you ask for it without you having to explain. Good luck!
