Getting 'twinges' and now panicking about DD

Yesterday at 37 weeks I had loads of BH and down low crampy pains, culminating with what felt like a full on contraction: had to get off sofa onto all fours.

Then it all tailed off, as I panicked about the fact both sets of patents are 2-3h drive away and that I wouldn't want to call too soon but on the other hand if I left it too late I'd end up taking DD to the hospital...

It made me think that a home birth might be a better plan if things move fast, although I previously dismissed it as didn't want to labour with parents in the house, and DH was concerned about mess...

I suppose if I were to call and they say I need to get to the hospital I could say I'd like a HB and then once parents arrived head for the hospital? Or would that have to involve wasting an ambulances time?

Sorry for the ramble, just looking for solutions to help me relax and get labour going once it properly kicks off...

I'm not entirely sure but i think homebirths need to be pre-booked to ensure a midwife is available.

Do you have a neighbour or friend that could watch your DD until parents arrive? Most people would be happy to help out for a few hours in this type of situation.

Here you just say when you call the 'in labour' number and as long as they have enough MWs they'll do a home birth. Most of my local friends have children so night time would depend if their partner was about, and I'm pretty sure DD would freak out: we don't know people all that well...

I'm sure it'll work out. If need be she'll come to the hospital and DH will have to leave me and take her out until either the baby comes of someone arrives. Not ideal but its only a few hours.
