Any Private Maternity/Birthing Services in or near Peterborough?

Hi everyone

I am new to this thread and am very early (6 weeks) and I was wondering if anyone can help with my question?

I really don't want to have my baby at Peterborough hospital (combination of reasons including bad feedback) Having googled the life out of Private Maternity Services in Peterborough I have come to the conclusion that the nearest services would be London? (Ideally I would like to give birth Private as opposed to an NHS hospital) Has anyone else on here been in this situation and what did you end up doing? I've heard that Hinchingbrook (Huntingdon) and the Rosie (Cambridge) Hospital are much better than Peterborough so these could be an option. Im feeling quite anxious about it all to be honest, I would happily spend my savings on a private service if I could just find it! (Maybe I am crazy and stressing about nothing and I know its early days and I have to get to the 12 week scan etc etc first but it is on my mind quite a lot)

Sorry for waffling - chocolate brownies to anyone who got this far! :-)

Have you thought of asking about an NHS home birth instead. Don't know what its like in your area but we have a great dedicated home birth team. I'd also ask on MN local.

Congratulations Thanks

Have you had a look at birth choice uk and is there a mw led unit you could consider?

Congratulations :-) I would imagine the nearest private services for you would be The Birth Team in Watford, Hertfordshire. You will have all ante natal appointments in a private hospital but your actual birth will be at a NHS hospital under private care and moved to private wing afterwards.

Thank you for the replies everyone :-) I hadn't thought of a private midwife - will look into it, and also The Birth Team in Watford. There is always the hospital near where I grew up, but would poss have to put my parents address down for that one (its not private but has a brilliant reputation and you get your own room and toilet/shower facilities) I've never been to hospital for anything in my life so am flapping a bit about everything!

I had my first at Peterborough and they were wonderful, the hospital was very clean and staff very nice and gave me everything I needed, Will be having second there later this year, it's the same everywhere with good and bad whatever hospital you go to Smile.

I gave birth at the midwife led unit at City of Peterborough, my midwife was great. Can't comment on after care as left quickly. I have had two children in Peterborough and treatment for two mc, all care has been excellent.

I had all 4 of my boys at Peterborough mat unit, and the care i received was fantastic. I was very apprehensive, each time but the midwives i had during each pregnancy and births, where very reassuring and caring. I even had a male midwife care for me during my last pregnancy (the best mw of them all).
Congratulations and Good luck with what ever decision you make on your care

Thank you for sharing your experience Malteser. I am now booked with Perterborough... The MLU were lovely when I had to go in for something and seeing the place helped put my worries as ease! Not so impressed with having seen a diff midwife at every check up appointment however... all lovely but feels like no continuity. They have all been nice but still!

I read somewhere that Peterborough is currently having a baby boom and that services are stretched.. just hope they are open when I rock up in labour and don't send me to Leicester like a friend of a friend had to as P'boro, Hinchingbrooke and Addenbrookes were all full and closed to admissions!
