I had a lovely beautiful healthy boy in 2009 by natural birth with only gas and air. I remember it being crazy sore and scary at times but when I finally had him I was so proud and felt so amazing to have done it myself with no real medical interference. So I'm pregnant again and so far nearly 20 weeks, I spent a lot of time in my last labour in the bath at the clinic and felt it really helped, do this time I want a water birth. I can't explain why but I'm very apprehensive about the birth this time, and I would say I'm actually quite scared. I don't know anyone that has had a water birth so I'm here asking for experiences, and also if anyone has any tops to help me become less nervous about this second birth. I really am open to any suggestions. Thanks everyone :)

A friend had a water birth and said it was helpful. I can understand you are apprehensive. My first birth was good, pretty text book but had to be cut. Second time round, i wasn't worried about being cut just worried that i'd end up with a c section.

I thought it would be sods law to have stretched bits from the first then a scar from a c section. However, second birth was 3.5 hours from start to finish, half the time of the first. The only differences being i wasn't cut and that i didn't seem to get a break in between contractions. It was like the first birth but in fast forward mode.

It is easy for me to say, but try not to worry. Your body will instinctively know what to do, it has done it before. In the end it will be a case. Of que sera sera, and however it goes I'm sure it will all be ok when you have your new bundle of joy in your arms!

Thanks bumblebee78, to hear that your labour second time around was so quick made me smile lol, I can only hope! And it's nice to know someone else has had the same sort of apprehension second time around. When I tell my family they just tell me to wise up, I've done it once so I'll be fine. :/ fingers crossed, just can't wait for he/she to be here!!

I think it's natural to be more scared second time round as you know what is going to happen to an extent, for me ignorance was bliss as I definitely was less nervous first time round!

Saying that, despite the expected pain, my first labour went smoothly like yours. And hopefully it will reassure you that my second was actually easier and less painful, despite the baby being 10lbs8 (I'm just grateful he was the second baby and not my first!!)

Both mine were water births and I thoroughly recommend them.

Good luck and enjoy your new baby!

At the point where they suggested I try the pool I was screaming blue murder that I wanted a section. I screamed a lot of expletives back at them about how much use a pool of water was going to be. It was amazing!
