Any experiences of induction for obstetric choleostasis or induction for second baby?

I am very shocked to be in this position. Second baby, first born at home at 40 weeks. This time I have developed OC at 37 weeks and they want to induce in two days. Just looking for some experience of induction for OC how did it go, how long did it take? Anyone else get it only second time around?
I'm panicky and scared as I had just got everything sorted for my homebirth and now had the rug pulled from under me!

Hi there. I was induced with my second & it really wasnt bad at all. My ds had a heart condition that needed to be fixed after birth, hence induction. Had pessery inserted & nothing happened for about 12 hours. Then contractions started quickly & ds was born 90 mins later. It was quick & painful (but no more than with my first, who was born 'naturally') but it was doable for me with a bit of gas & air. No fuss or complications.

Hi there,

I also had OC from 30 weeks pg with my second child. I didn't have it with my first (he came naturally at 41 weeks after a 12 hr labour with forceps).

DC2 was induced at 35 weeks as the medication was not keeping my bile acids and LF within safe levels. The consultant said that OC ladies often have quick labours so watch out!!

The induction was a fantastic experience! Went in, monitored for a bit and had a sweep. Gave me a pessary to soften the cervix, chilled out and read magazines. Waters broke 4 hours after pessary and contractions started. DC arrived jut one hour later! I did not need the second pessary or drip to get things going.

I wont lie, it was bloody painful - with no time for any pain relief other than gas and air and I had planned for an epidural! But it was mercifully quick as I was only in labour for an hour!

As your baby is term at 37 weeks, you and baby will be fine. It's great they have diagnosed your OC and can deliver you safely.

Good luck!!!!!
