6 weeks.

I've had one, it came out. But I did know it had come out. They're meant to be very reliable.

There's two types, mirena which releases low dose hormones so there might possibly be some weight related side effects if you've been prone to that on the pill. Then there's the older style copper coil with no hormones so there shouldn't be any weight gain.

Have you had a chat with the nurse? I haven't had any weight gain with mine but I don't suppose you'll really know till you try it. I tried pretty much everything else then had it fitted - wish I'd got on with getting it fitted in the first place!

Oh no why did it come out

i had the non hormonal one and LOVED it!

didn't hurt to be put in (had heard horror stories) gained zero weight (if anything i lost a bit) and periods were great (again had heard horror stories about them being heavy.

had it removed on dec 29th last year, was pregnant before i ever got a period after, so it didn't affect my fertility either.

would deff have another one.

Had the mirena - hated it. Yes it stopped my periods altogether but only after 12 weeks of pretty much nonstop bleeding. And I LOST weight and couldn't put any weight on which at a size 8 to begin with I absolutely hated. It also depleted my sex drive.

I have the copper coil and so far so good (had it fitted in April when ds was 4 months old)

Cramped while going in and for a while after but been fine since. Love not having artificial hormones as they make me crazy.

I suspect it came out because it wasn't put in right. It came out the same day it was put in.
