First period after birth

So my first period since giving birth to DC1 started yesterday :( The flow initially was quite slow, but today it's really heavy - will all my periods be as heavy as this from now on? Or does it take a few periods to settle down after birth?

I was told a few years back that my periods would be much better and manageable after having children (I've always had very painful, heavy, and sometimes irregular periods, with lots of bloating). This time there was no pain and I didn't even realise it had started until I went to the loo (this has never happened to me!). I guess it's been over 12 months since I had my last period, so I may have forgotten just how heavy they used to be, but is it a general rule that periods are better after having children? Or is it likely that I'll just revert to the way it used to be? I'm definitely happy not to have the pain, but the heaviness just feels yuck - especially in this hot weather.

I got my periods back when DD was a year old, but I only had 2 before I got pregnant again. They were heavier than before but I suppose because I only had two, I don't know if thy would have settled down or changed iykwim? Sorry not much help.

My first three periods were super heavy and I too was quite disappointed. However now they have calmed down an are back to normal. Slightly less painful actually so they should settle down hopefully
