Constipation following emergency c section - what laxative is safe?

I had an emergency c section 2 weeks ago and ever since, I've been severely constipated - only been 3 times in 15 days, and each time was very...ahem...difficult (sorry TMI!). They gave me dulcoease and lactolose in the hospital which 'got things moving' after a couple of days, and I've been taking lactulose ever since to very little avail. I bought some dulcoease today, but when reading the leaflet, it said not to use if breastfeeding.

Does anyone have any advice on what other laxatives are safe to take (other than lactulose) during breastfeeding? ie movicol? I'm going to get an appointment with my doctor on Monday, but would be good if I could start taking something to ease the pain sooner!

Thanks

Dried figs, dried apricots and liquorice worked for me after both emcs. Your gut will be working slowly too if you are not moving about as much as usual. I found things got moving after I was able to get out for a bit of a walk. Good luck!

I was prescribed a combination of Lactulose and Senna. It worked too well.

If you can bear it, a glycerine suppository got things moving for me. None of the other stuff had any effect.

Linseed worked wonders for me post birth. Sprinkle on cereal , in sandwiches & over meals.

Thanks everyone. I'll have a trip to the chemist and supermarket today to see if I can get things moving! This is one C section side effect I wasn't aware of!

An entire punnet of apricots might help - taste nicer too :)
