Anyone had super quick labour, and gone on to have another?

That's it really. My second shot out in a very scary 40 minutes - I got to the delivery room with her head practically hanging out. We're umming and aahing about whether to have a third, and I'm worried about going even quicker. Anyone an experience???

slower here - but that's not so much because it was slower, than because I could recognise the early signs and took them seriously.

Go for a home birth! call the midwives the second you feel a twinge... they'll come instantly if you've had a 'precipitate labour'...

slower hey? I'm a bit freaked out by home birth notion. Screaming FUUCK with the girls upstairs. I get very, very sweary in labour...
maybe they'll let me camp out in the birth centre's zen gardens for a week or two, just in case

I was wondering the same thing although my dc2 was 2 1/2 hours, 40 minutes must have been really scary! I second faster's suggestion of a homebirth, it is so much more relaxed than rushing to hospital at a moments notice.

My second came in an estimated 2hrs 14mins as I was 8cm when we arrived.
They said to me jokingly at the time about no.3 having to be a home birth.
Now 8 weeks and, assuming I have a normal pregnancy, am going to opt for a HB.
Driving 80mph in the car at 8cms with contractions thick and fast was not fun. Would much rather be at home this time.

DS1 2.5 hours

DS2 1 hour

DC3 Due August so just quietly freaking out about how long that might take. Had home births with both and planning to for no 3 as well. Agree that you are more aware of early signs though and there were defo more warning signs with DS2 than DS1 (backache, twinges etc.)

Would certainly recommend home birth - takes the panic out of things (and I swear a lot too!)

No 2 was 90min from waters breaking to delivery. No 3 was 45min from first contraction to delivery. Luckily I was in hospital waiting to be induced when she decided to get going. Otherwise it would have been a home birth (planned). We want a 4th, I'll almost certainly be offered an induction around 40 weeks according to my MW...

Go for the home birth plan, I would.

no 1 was 2 hrs.

no 2, I opted for a home birth. Waters went, had a contraction, called the MW, had the baby (15 mins from waters), sat back and waited for MN (and ambulance as H called 999 when I gave birth) to arrive.

ChasingSquirrels did your DH delivery the baby or did it deliver itself??? Haven't yet told DH that I think he may need to brush up on his midwifery skills.....

No, he was on the other side of the room cutting bubble wrap for the bed!!
I stood up (for said bubble wrap), thought "I'd better just check nothing is happening", reached down and delivered ds2's head into my hand.

My first arrived about 45 mins after we got to hospital. Like fasterthanthewind said upthread, I recognised the signs with number 2 and got myself to hospital with more time to spare - the midwives wanted me to go home but we just sat in the cafe for half an hour then rushed back upstairs to the delivery suite when contractions started. With both of mine, my waters broke before contractions started so that was the sign for me to go in second time around.

With the second one, I had the home birth kit at home "just in case" but I made it clear to the community midwife that I would try and get to hospital if I could. She was happy with that.

Me, I had a 3 hour labour, a 20 mins and then a 25 mins, all 3 induced though. I was told to ring 999 if I went into labour at home as they said it would be fast!

I've been told I would be admitted a week before my due date if I have a third. DC2 was 50 mins from the first sign of anything happening.

primed community MWs, home birth kit at home and took a poster on previous threads advice re what to do with toddler if baby arrived unattended at home (lock child in another room, bag of old towels and mobile phone to hand to call 999)
would love to have more but not sure if sensible

Mine got quicker and quicker.

First was 2 and a half hours
Second was 24 minutes
Third was 13 minutes

1st baby - 14hrs 10 mins

2nd baby - 40 mins

3rd baby - 9hr 30mins

All completely different labours - no rhyme nor reason! x

1st baby - 2 hours

2nd baby - 2.5 hours

3rd baby - 17 minutes

DC 1 - 2 hours 35 mins from first twinge (15 mins after getting to hospital) - 12 days early

DC 2 - 1 hour 20 mins from first tiny period pain (good job I was awake or wouldn't have noticed for another 20 mins) - 4 weeks early

Did not want home birth but tried to set up for it just in case for DC2 - but the birth was more than 3 weeks early so they didn't drop the equipment round in time!

Would LOVE DC3 but DH doesn't so I guess I don't need to worry about another (more) precipitate labour...!
