Exercise after birth?

When can you start doing (cardio) exercise after the birth? I'd like to get back into roller skating. I'm 2.5 weeks post birth right now (vaginal birth, some stitches) and feel pretty good and energetic, but am not sure whether I need to wait longer with regards to abdominal muscles?

I am not sure, think 6 week check seemed like a good point to check all was where it should be with gp, i would not copy me who has erred on side of caution far too long and not done any exercise of note since having ds almost two years ago, should however mention that i did get my trainers out!

Rrreow, I've been wondering the same. Feel great but don't want to do myself damage. Baby was born on the fourth. Want to start couch to 5k but midwife suggested walking was enough.

I've been doing a fair amount of walking with DS in a sling since he was born. While pregnant I didn't do much exercise but I live in a house with 6 flights of stairs (and work from home), so I pretty much got my exercise from just my normal routine.

I know about the abdominal muscle separation issue and obviously want to be careful, but I don't know whether roller skating actually works those muscles particularly? I've tried Googling but only got roller derby results Grin, what I'm thinking of would be much more low key. I think I shall wait till the 6 week check and ask GP.
