Hypnobirthing and TENS?

I'm 34 weeks and hoping to try and use hypnobirthing to get through the birth. I've not been going to the classes, (bit pricy and my mum is a hypnotherapist so I'm pretty used to being hypnotised and self- hypnosis) I've been using the Natal CD. Should I bother getting a TENS machine as well, or will there be no point. Instinct is saying there will be no harm in having one just incase but wondered if anyone had any experience of this?

I gave birth 3 weeks ago. Used a hypno cd throughout pregnancy - it's not my normal cup of tea but it was awesome at sending me off to sleep! Then was induced by having my waters broken at 42 weeks. Walking and stairs weren't getting labour going so we tried hypno cd and gentle back massage which worked a treat (apparently feeling safe and relaxed is important for labour). Then used a TENS machine throughput labour and it was great - gave me a button to press, something to take my mind off the contraction. I'd highly recommend TENS, but make sure you get it on early - when contractions feel like pressure rather than pain, so it has time to work. Then when contractions got more intense I had gas and air, from 7cm through pushing I was not letting go of the gas and air for anyone! Hope that helps, good luck!

I managed 4 hours of syntocinon contractions with just hypnobirthing and TENS. So yes! It did help... I hired one. Good luck!

I used hypno techniques and tens until I was ready to get into water (where I still used hypno, of course). I found both useful. Though the tens has its limitations. I didn't feel they clashed.

Great, thank you very much that is very helpful and reassuring to hear that. I will get a tens machine ordered.
