Induction, using a balloon to dilate cervix.

Hi

I'm getting induced in 3 weeks time at 37+2 weeks. This is baby no 6. After speaking with consultant today it's hopeful the induction process will just be a case of breaking my waters. If not thy don't want to use the pessary as its likely to overstimulate the cervix, with it being my 6 birth. He said in this case they would use a balloon to dilate the cervix, but never explained, as I suspect it's unlikely I'll need it, and that they would explain it on the day.

Does anyone have any information or experience of this?

Thanks Thanks

It's used quite a lot in other countries (North America for sure) and has good results and good safety. I think there have been recent studies on it so, although it's not used much in this country at the moment, NICE may review the guidance at some point and we may begin to see it more.
