Hi there I'm new to all this

passed mucus (not bloody) and am getting regular period style pains. Still haven't written my birth plan or packed my bag!

Is it imminent?

thanks for any advice

i would pack if i were you! Altho poss braxton hicks

controlfreaky2 · 26/05/2006 22:01

get that bag packed now!
are you in denial maybe??

colditz · 26/05/2006 22:01

Sod the birth plan, pack your bag!

Probably braxton hicks, but it pays to be cautious with your first - you don't know if you are going to have a 41 hour or 41 minute labour!

Orlando · 26/05/2006 22:02

Forget about birth plan but get that bag packed! It sounds like you're on your way. Very best of luck and will look out for a 'birth announcements' post very soon!

Orlando · 26/05/2006 22:03

unanimous reaction!

(doesn't happen that often here Grin)

noopska · 26/05/2006 22:51

not in denial!

thanks for the advice - its strange when things start happening that haven't happened yet!

been frantically reading talkboards to try and get info I wanted but I thought I might as well post in the end

My question is really when do you know that braxton hicks (or branston pickles as my friend calls them) are turning into the real thing?

dp just ran me a bath with rubber ducks and all so feeling quite calm now

will keep you posted! thanks!

How exciting, hope you have packed by now, my labour started with really bad back pains and period type pains.

Good Luck Grin

controlfreaky2 · 27/05/2006 00:01

and mine... but that stage can go on for long time before "real" labour

brimfull · 27/05/2006 00:21

you'll know a real contraction when it comes!

hope it goes well....how exciting

suzi2 · 29/05/2006 22:06

lol I disagree - my painful BHs turned into real contractions and I still didn't know I was in labour when I was 7cm dilated Grin

hope you've long since had your little one

carol3 · 29/05/2006 22:42

I'd always say go and have a sleep, you'll either wake up later feeling fine and rested or you'll be woke up by the contractions and have to go in. I did this with dd3 was on the bed about 5 mins when i decided yep this is it midwife arrived and i was 8 cm !. Good luck

cheeseypeas · 29/05/2006 23:25

I'd say so.

I passed mucus (the plug thing) and had regular pains all day. I had given birth by 9.14pm the next!

I hope you have a great birth experience and if it's your first, just keep saying to yourself that every contraction brings you closer to your baby!

Good Luck x x x x

happybebe · 30/05/2006 09:25

am 35 + 5 weeks today and had show this morning but only getting braxton hicks. the difference between them apparently is that real contractions push down and braxton hick push up! so with BH it will feel like they start from your nether regions and move up your belly, whereas contractions feel like a band tightening from the top of your belly moving down! with my first baby i didnt give birth till a week and a half after my show despite very regular braxton hicks. i would say pack that bag though as you never know! :)

PinkTulips · 30/05/2006 18:24

my BHs turned into contractions so gradually over several days it was hard to tell where one left off and the other started. pack your bags now though before you get too stressed and tired.

good luck Grin

SHHHH · 31/05/2006 15:31

noopska are you about....mmmmm me thinks you may be in labour OR may have your little bundle already..!

BTW I can't believe you are/were 39 +2 and hadn't packed your bag...wtf..no bag....??????????????????? Mine was packed and ready at the door from around 20 weeks Grin. Organised and scared..!!!!

Hello all,
I just read up there about nursing bras- I need to get mine too but am putting it off in case my boobs grow any more? Do you think this is likely- I have 5 weeks till due date.

Is anyone else still at work? I am finding it quite hard being there now. Just in the last few days I feel like I have hit a wall and am totally zonked by about 5 and I just slink home to bed. (And spend the whole day fighting the urge to just each chocolate! Only give in a few times...)

Mumcah · 09/10/2010 21:50

When your milk comes in your boobs will probably double in size from what they are now Grin

Nursing bras hardly ever fit as when your boobs are full they are snug and then when your baby has fed they are baggy!

Plus your ribcage will shrink quite quickly in the couple of weeks after,so I think it's better to wait til after the baby is born to buy them.Or buy some cheap ones to tide you over.
