8 week postpartum check?

Hi everyone! I am new here so apologies if this has already been discussed and I have missed it!
My local surgery does not offer a 6 week postpartum check but an 8 week one- is this new/normal?
I am thinking of making an appt. to see my GP this week as I had Freddie 6 weeks ago and am still bleeding quite heavy with small clots (I have also had 2 episodes of a gush and 5cm clot). Added to this I have a large (10cm) fibroid- only discovered at my 12 week scan- could this be adding to the bleeding- does anyone think I may have an infection? I am feeling tired and lethargic and a bit low but not sure if that's just early motherhood?

I think for a standard check an extra 2 weeks wouldn't matter too much, but AFAIK 6 weeks is still the standard.

Either way you need to either see a gp (one with an interest in womens health preferably) or contact the maternity unit at the hospital. You shouldn't still be bleeding with clots, and you may well be anaemic now.

Do see your doctor. I had a baby six weeks ago too and clots stopped after the first four or five days and the bleeding stopped after a couple of weeks. I don't use any pad or liner now and haven't done for about a fortnight. I don't know how typical I am, but your situation sounds worrying to me. Hope you feel better soon. Baby is so important, but you need to look after yourself too !

Yes see your GP - feeling tired and lethargic are symptoms of anaemia, as a previous poster suggested.
With regards to the blood loss, everyone is different so yours may just be normal for you but definitely worth getting checked by your midwife and/or doctor.
