Lisa,

I have had a waterbirth but not at northampton general. I hired one for home and laboured and delivered in it. What sort of things do you want to know?

im just wondering whats it like i had a preety bad labour with my first after being started off and then a long labour ending up with having an epidural i just want to feel in control more withthis one.

Well, what I like about it was that I felt snug and safe in there. If I remember rightly I felt like I was enclosed and protected in the pool - even though I was naked I didn't feel at all exposed.

The other big, big bonus for me was that I didn't like any sort of movement prior to getting in. If it had been up to me I would have spent the whole labour in the position I started in, because my contractions were so close together for the whole time and I hated the thought of being in-transit when a contraction came on.
The pool was good for this because it supported my big heavy body, so when in there it was really quick and easy to flip from knees/squat/lying back/leaning forward.

There weren't any downsides that I can think of - I would definately do it again. The midwife had an underwater thingy to hear the heart beat and she just reached around me to check on the baby.

You could try it though, and if it is not for you then you can just get out.

If you are able to start off naturally this time, hopefully that should help give you a good head-start in getting the smoother birth that you want.
