sex.....how long after a c-section did you wait?

Hi, have just posted this in Chat, but on second thoughts I probably should have posted here. I am 12 weeks post c/s and am wondering how long people generally wait after a c/s. Personally I wouldnt mind not bothering at all as I still dont feel quite my normal self iykwim - due to a traumatic labour and birth, sleep deprivation etc. Dh has been fantastic but I know he is wondering when things are going to get back to normal. Re internal/external stitches when is it safe and when did everyone else feel like being intimate again? Starting to wonder if maybe its just me.

We waited a couple of weeks BUT DTs were in SCBU so no sleep deprivation! Once they came home it was quite a while:)

I think 6 weeks is the standard advice but its up to you, and when you feel ready!

We waited at least six months iirc: it wasn't a priority :)

I had a horrific labour, 'failed' vag birth, and very quick and scary crash section with a big 12 inch scar. I was in agony afterwards with scar tissue internally though.

If it had just been an elective, I guess as soon as I felt I had had enough sleep. I was bf as well and had massive, uncomfortable, leaky boobs, so I didn't feel like a sex goddess, just an earth mother!

Plenty of other things you can do though rather than penetrative sex: be demonstrative, and don't forget to hug each other too!

Go and see a physiotherapist who specialises in post natal recovery. Best money I ever spent.

Thanks for your responses, its nice to know I'm not abnormal for not having attempted it yet (altho think dh is starting to think otherwise). VenusRising did the physio give you special exercises to help your tummy muscles etc?

Yes she did, and a lot of manipulation internally and externally to tear up the scar tissue which had glued my muscle layers together ..... also had dry needle- ing to release nerves trapped in the scar tissue..... Shudder.

Well worth it though.
