Thanks for all your messages, I was in a state Tuesday and getting so frustrated, I was still contracting but had gone to 7-8 mins, then suddenly about 11am they shot to 4-5 mins and were becoming more intense, fortunately I called my partner back from work, sorted nanny to collect the other 2 and arrived at the hospital about 1.30 to be assessed. I never got round to being assessed, was whipped straight to delivery as was now about 2 mins apart!!! I got my anti sickness jab and cracked on with the gas and air, but decided to go for an epidural, this was in place and beginning to work by 17.10, however babies heartrate began dropping ( probably due to contracting since Sun!!) The Drs were called in and broke my waters but she had had a poo!! After some panic on my part and a fantastic team of midwives and Drs Baby was safely delivered with suction cap at 17.24 weighing in at 9llb!!!
Thankfully after a thorough check and 12 hours obs she was given a clean bill of health!! Welcome Emilie!!! :)
Anyway edinfirst I truly hope you are now in the same position as me! And the rest of you lovelies are getting there and will soon be enjoying your bundles!! Take Care of yourselves Grin

The decision to go beyond 42 is a hard one. I decided I'd be happy to go to 42+3 and stay with homebirth, 42+4 I would have gone to hospital if I'd gone into labour naturally and at 42+5 I prob would have succumbed to induction. But that was me - everyone has their own limitations. My logic was based on the margin of error I believed possible around my due date. It seems so ludicrous to me that the hospital decreed induction at 40 + 13 when we don't know exactly the date I conceived (although I believed dd was accurate +/- 3 days most probably).

I did A LOT of reading online about risks of induction, etc - not sure if that helped or made me more crazy. But I think one important thing was 'coming to terms' with the prospect of induction. Not accepting it as inevitable, but as ok if that was what had to happen and letting go of fear of 'failing' my homebirth plans...

And do search on here as plenty of positive stories of both induction and women going to 42+

Congrats Sureley really pleased all was well. My little darling still refusing to budge. Had a sweep yesterday, cervix is down and the lovely MW said about 1 cm open, so light at the end of the tunnel (!) so to speak.

Citydweller, I did the same, read all the articles that post date still birth figures are based on and a lot about the risks of induction. I'm driving my husband mad!

I have also been watching YouTube clips of Ena May Gaskin addressing a Scandinavian conference. Made me feel a whole lot better, she has become a bit of an inspiration, all her teaching/ writing is based on experience and observation. All very sensible.

I asked for some extra time with dc3. induction normally 40+10, I asked for 4 extra days but no luck. induced at 42 weeks. actually was a lovely induction, pessary got me going n rest of labour was like natural, no drip etc. utterly unlike induction of dc1.

they told me the placenta showed signs of age when it came out so was sort of glad I hadnt asked for longer, but they didnt elaborate maybe it was minor I dont know.

currently 35 weeks with dc4 n expecting to go over again!
