stop/start contractions at 38 weeks

Started on Monday afternoon with contractions, they got closer together all evening but never increased in intensity. Ended up going into hospital and midwife checked but only 2cm dilated. Sent me home and the contractions continued until Tues afternoon then stopped. Nothing at all for a few hours then they started up again about 1am this morning and have been coming every 5mins since then. PLEASE someone tell me some positive stories as Dr Google says that I could be trapped in this stop/start hell for another month :(

I had five days of it with my first. If they're every five minutes that's not bad - can you still talk through them if you need to or do you have to stop to cope with each one? If the latter, go in!

Totally sympathise!! I've had the same going on for last 2 days. I had 2 hours last night of contractions that were averaging 4 mins apart and lasting up to 1 min. I'm GBS+ so been told I need to contact hospital early. I called and was told to go in. As soon as I got my coat on, the contractions stopped Hmm

I had weeks of it with number 2. If it's any consolation labour was only 4 hours when it got going and it does give your partner lots of practice at your coping techniques!
