Long latent phase with dc1, same second time around?

I went into spontaneous labour with dc1, born at 41+6. I had about 48 hours of prelabour, maximum period pain level of pain, really nothing bad. This came and went leaving me the odd hour or so to rest. Labour proper started after a 5 hour break where nothing happened, and was full on contractions, then DS born just 5 hours later.

I'm now 35 weeks with dc2 and wondering if those who had a long latent phase the first time also did the second time around. I know there's no guarantees, just curious. Also hoping for a bit of warning so I have time to get DS sorted before going in!

I had four days of sporadic contractions the first time, but second time I had a sweep at 41 + 10 and went straight into proper 10-minute apart contractions that reduced during the night to about 5m apart by 5am. Went into the MLU and had DS a couple of hours later.

Thanks, nice to know I may not be in for 2 days without sleep before labour kicks in this time!

In early labour with DS1 for 2 days then induced.

DS2 - no early labour signs at all till my waters broke - contractions kicked in an hour later - born 3 and a half hours later!

I'm reading this thread with interest as I am in a similar position. Long early stage. Contractions on and off for a week with two days of stronger ones before proper labour started.
It's made me wonder if baby will come a week earlier this time. If it starts around the same time but goes more quickly.
I guess I'll have to wait and see! 8 weeks or so left (maybe 7 if it's a week early!).

Oh thank god a long latent phase doesn't seem to necessarily repeat itself! I had a 4 day latent phase with contractions coming regularly for 8 hours or so (always overnight) and then wearing off again. Then I was in established labour for 24 hours. Poor DS was knackered as hell by the time he came out, could barely breath, and ended up in NICU for a week. The whole experience was horrendous and quite frankly I'm completely terrified about doing it again in August...

Would much prefer long latent phase than long active phase! I'm speaking from experience

V true Mountain my midwife kept trying to tell me that a long latent phase often meant you had a shorter active phase... Sadly didn't work out that way for me!

I had a long latent phase with DD1- over 48 hours of on/off contractions. It was worse at night, so I was sleeping in 10-15 minute stretches and was utterly exhausted by the time she arrived.

With DD2 it was about 7 hours from start to finish. It caught me out- I didn't wake DH until fairly late on, waited even longer to sort out childcare and our lift to hospital, and only just made it in time.

Thanks all. Sounds like a long prelabour the first time doesn't give any indication if what'll happen second time around. Now if only she will turn up on time....!

So showing this thread to DH- he thinks just because we had 60 hours warning last time, it will be the same again this time and he can get a couple of days at work done whilst we wait!
