Can they miss twins on 6 week scan?

Help me dampen my paranoia here!

Currently 9 weeks pregnant with baby number 2. Had a scan at 6 weeks which showed a single 6 week old embryo. No twins in my family

Have had lots more symptoms this time (though starting to tail off at the point they did in my first pregnancy) and already have a very noticeable bump. I'm not being paranoid about the bump - a not very close friend saw me 10 days ago in baggy clothes and guessed. We met a lovely Independent Midwife today and I was telling her how early I'm showing while we were sitting down and she smiled. When I stood up her eyes widened and she gently asked if we were sure it wasn't twins!

So, I've now googled (stupid) and seen that it is possible to miss a twin that early. Did this happen to any of you? Is it a very rare occurrence? Did you have a massive bump with number 2 and there was only 1 baby.

I have another scan on Saturday, so will ask them to double check, but any help much appreciated.

I suppose its entirely possible, but generally you show a lot earlier in 2nd pregnancies anyway. Stay away from google though, you will end up thinking there are 10 babies in there Grin

My friends scan showed one baby at 12 weeks and 2 babies at the 20 week scan!

She flippantly asked if there would be 3 at the third scan (35 weeks - standard is 3 scans here in France) and the scanner very seriously replied that it didnt work like that Grin

Congratulations Smile
I have twins, we didn't find out till 12 weeks at our first scan. No twins in our family either - it's got to start somewhere. Grin
I did have a big bump by then, but no bigger than my friend who was on her second pregnancy and a couple of weeks behind me.
I think every pregnancy is different anyway, lots of people have sailed through one pregnancy and really suffered with another.
Good luck with your scan on Saturday, try not to worry.

I had clear, noticeable bumps v early both times. I have a short body and a shallow pelvis. No twins.
