Anyone been induced 1st time around and then gone into labour by themselves 2nd time around? Pls give me some hope!

I'm five days overdue and will be induced this time next week if nothing happens. I was induced with DD1 at 42+2. There was no way she was coming out by herself. And had a pretty horrible birth too. This time feels a bit different. Had one sweep on Thursday and lost mucous plug in the few days that followed. Due another one today or tomorrow. Getting the odd few braxton hicks and period pains, but not much.
Desperate not to be induced again. Did all the things they recommend last time but to no avail.

Has anyone been really late and induced with DC1 and then gone into spontaneous labour the second time around? If I'm not seeing any signs by now do you think I need to resign myself to another induction in a week's time. Starting to feel a bit desperate.

Yes I was induced first time and went into labour 7 hours before I was due to be induced the second time, I was a week overdue. My next baby was then 2 weeks early and I was totally unprepared.

Thanks Missy. Thats encouraging. 7 hours prior to induction - that was cutting it fine! I'd take it though!!!

Hi, poor you. All three of my babies were "womb clingers" too. Was induced with one and three but number two arrived spontaneously at 41 +5 , just beat the induction and got my home birth. I have had 19 sweeps now and am dubious(!)
but the micas plug is a good sign and happened for me too. Good luck!! Induction sucks, rough on us and babies.

I spent the whole day wearing myself out because I knew I would be too excited to sleep then as soon as my head hit the pillow my waters broke and I had a whopping great contraction typical.

Yes, ds was very clingy and was not coming out without a fight - very long labour, and thought they'd have to send in a rescue squad!

dd was a week late and I was really thinking another induction was on the cards, but she ended up whizzing (almost literally!) into the world about 2 hours after labour fully started.

Fingers crossed your second is keener to make an entrance!

Dd2 I convinced was going the same way, eventually spontaneous labour at term +8

Now pregnant with number 3 and anticipating another well overdue baby. But hopeful for spontaneous labour again

Thanks everyone. Need to focus on these positive stories. Think I will have the next sweep just in case it helps, although the last one left me in considerable discomfort!

I did.

DD was an induction at 40+15 and DS was spontaneous labour at 40+11 (40+1 by my reckoning though)

You do know you don't have to accept induction, don't you, and that you can request expectant management - the risks and benefits of either course of action should be explained to you by your midwife.

DS1, induced at 40+14 and ended with an EMCS. Also a horrid labour. Tried everything including two sweeps but nothing would shift him.

DS2 arrived of his own accord at 40+13, three hours before scheduled ELCS! Four hour labour, couldn't believe it! I couldn't be bothered with any of the pineapple-eating whilst shagging on a ball nonsense but I did have two sweeps. Also, like you, I lost my mucous plug with DS2 a couple of days before.

Presumably with your first birth, you dilated to 10cm? That's a good sign for your body knowing what to do the second time around.

Flisspaps - thanks, yes I did know about being able to refuse induction. But to be honest with you having to go in for constant monitoring whilst trying to find childcare all the time would be a pain. Plus I did that last time and still nothing. Plus because of my age they don't want me to go over 40+12. I also think by next tuesday i'll be desperate to get this baby out!!

Artifarti - Yes I'm with you - all these vindaloos and pineapple and long walks and bouncing on a ball are getting to me. Tbh I'd rather be induced than have sex right now I'm so uncomfortable after the sweeps. And yes I did dilate to 10cm the first time with the drip and had a ventouse delivery. Midwife did say that my cervix is favourable and that she could get 2 fingers in (Nice!!!!) but hasn't really changed since my last sweep on friday.

Suppose I just have to sit tight and hope!

Me- induction with DC1 at 39 wks, hideous birth.

DC2, spontaneous easy birth at 40+2. So different to induction with drip - and SO much nicer.

Narmada - that's a nice story! My drip induction was so bad I actually have blocked the majority of the memory of it out of my mind. Bit worried it will all come flooding back with that first contraction!! But hoping the 2nd will be easier especially if I can do it by myself!

Same here re blocking it out. Honestly, if you do have a spontaneous delivery this time you will very probably have a damascene moment - 'ohhhhhhh, this is what it's supposed to be like' kind of thing.

You have a big advantage this time round. You have done it the hardest way already and are expecting the worst. Normal labour will pleasantly surprise you on all likelihood. Plus, you know this time around that it really will end and you're not actually going to expire, which is what I thought first time around....

Just don't do what I did and refuse, based on previous experience of labour, to believe you are in labour when you really are.

I was expecting to be sent home from delivery suite but internal revealed I was in fact fully dilated. I found it hard to believe based on those poxy contractions!

Wow that sounds amazing. Cant believe you were 10cm dilated and didn't even think you were in labour. I actually wish I could remember how hideous the pain was because then maybe this time it wouldn't seem so bad! So in a way I hope some memories do come back.

I'm so desperate not to be induced again. This is my last DC so will be devastated if I have to go in and go through that induction process again next Tuesday.
And you're right - I'm not sure I will know if i'm going into labour because I don't know what it feels like to do it spontaneously!!!

As a PP has said, you could always consider expectant monitoring rather than induction. I feel for you, I would have done anything to avoid the dreaded drip again.

Things are in your favour this Tim - no guarantees but your body's laboured before.....

If you are worried about not recognising labour, well, if you are having regular ctx that make you stop what you are doing and zone out, then it is probably labour - doesn't need to be 'I would saw my own leg off without anasthetic if it would end now' type pain. I did make it to hospital with an hour to spare in the end ;)

Yes, DD1 induced. Horrid birth for her and me. DD2 came in her own sweet time when she was ready. It was a lovely birth in a still-hurt-like-fuck way Tbh DD1 did have to be induced because of IUGR. There were no such issues with chubster DD2

Another yes, DC2 10 days late, 2 days before induction. Amazingly easy and straightforward delivery after the horrendous complications brought on by induction of DC1.

It may just be coincidence but I used clary sage essential oil which was recommended by a reflexologist I saw. I was unable to have any sweeps as my cervix was still posterior but I put some clary sage in the bath and then put some drops on a damp facecloth and laid it on my tummy whilst watching TV in bed. Next morning had a show and gave birth that night. Good luck!!
