Off to be induced in an hour and a half

And I'm a little bit scared. Which is silly as this is exactly what happened with DS1. Have lots of books and food in my bag but really don't feel ready for DS2 at the moment.

Oh and try not to be scared. I was the same though with DC2 - maybe because with DC1 it's all exciting and unknown but with DC2 you have a much better understanding of what's to come.

What is it that's worrying you?

Good luck! Bad induction with dc1 but amazing, quick induction with dc2 I wanted to do it all again straight away!

I'm just generally not someone that copes well with hospitals. In general I prefer to avoid them.

Thanks for all the good wishes. Just having breakfast and trying to resist the urge to pack the kitchen sink in the overnight bag.

I shall off and read the thread about timings...

Hurrah! They've finally got round to examining me, and I'm 3 cm already, so no pessary and they'll break my waters in a bit.

Unfortunately labour ward is apparently very busy, so they're not in any rush on induction ward.....

Oooo I'm excited for you! Hope you haven't been too bored. The labour ward was continually shut for the whole two and half weeks I was in, as soon as one left another came in.

Bet you stand up and they break on their own!

Still no sign of a room and I'm going slowly bananas. 12 hours now. DH is in the chair beside the bed and basically has to sleep there tonight until a room comes up. We're going to be knackered before we even bloody get going.

Argh nightmare! Dp had to sleep in one of those chairs (and did so all night quite peacefully whilst I was pacing the ward in early labour). I'd been in for four nights having steroids and had been woken every hour each night for obs

It really won't be long for you once they break your waters, you know they will come just as you fall asleep!

Do you know what you're having? Ds is fourteen weeks tomorrow!

(Sorry for babbling might keep you busy for 30 seconds though )

If they don't find you a room soon, I'd consider going home for the night and sleeping in your own bed, returning in the morning.

Induction isn't recommended to be started at night (NICE guidelines) as it reduces maternal satisfaction and increases your chance of intervention (probably because you're already knackered before you get started, never mind at the pushing stage!)

Definitely go home and return in the morning. That was the advice my midwife gave me in your position. Go home now, have a nice dinner, a good sleep and return refreshed. Good luck!

That's interesting fliss. I had my pessary put in in the morning but everyone else's is always told to come in in the evening, I suppose in the hope you get a good nights sleep before things kick off by the morning

i'd go home too.
when I was 3cm, it was 5 in the morning when mine started. (I wwas checked in the evening)

Hope things are going well for you, Skiing.

I didn't realise that, Flisspaps. My induction was started at 8.30pm and I was knackered by the time I was moved to the delivery suite at 7.30am. I asked for an epidural simply to conserve my energy as I was really worried that I wouldn't have the strength to push. If i had have been well rested, i think I may have coped without it. I didn't have any other intervention though.

There were 3 other women induced at the same time as me. In the unlikely event of needing induction a second time (not planning anyone children), I will certainly be requesting that it is not started at night.

Trouble is they have another batch of women due in at 7:30 tomorrow morning to be induced, so they want to get the 3 of us they should have fitted in today started before they arrive.

It was so hopeful when she said I was already 3cm this morning and ready to have my waters broken, but because I and one other lady didn't need a pessary at that stage we are now at the back of the queue. The labour ward is just overloaded!

Feels a bit like a queue in a barber shop, if we leave we have to go to the back when we return.

We're expecting DS2, and DS1 is at home with the grandparents and wants his Mummy to come home

once you're in labour you'll be admitted.

Thanks Mango. That made me a little teary eyed!

Apparently they now have some rooms free but not enough, so the doctors will come round in a bit and assess things. Bet you there is a shortage of midwives too but they're not mentioning that!

They've found me a room! Unfortunately they haven't found me a midwife so still can't break my waters and get things moving. But it's progress of a sort. 15.5 hours waiting so far....
