Anyone give birth one or two weeks early second time around?

If so, how long was your labour and how much did your baby weigh?

Due in two weeks but the wait is killing me, I have a dd already so should know to enjoy these last few full nights sleep but I am soooooooooooo excited and wishing myself to go into labour now. I feel ready!

But obviously I would like baby to be as strong as possible before coming out and wondered how it would effect the birth weight. I know normally second babies weight more than first if your first was an average weight. My dd was almost 8 pounds.

I gave birth at 37 weeks naturally second time, I had a chest infection though and coughed my waters out! It took a good 5 hours for the labour to start and then another 5 hours of straight-forward labour and a nice easy birth of DD at 6.6 pounds, she was fine, but couldn't breastfeed and got jaundice... (DS did too, he was first and got kicked out at the same gestation due to kidney probs)

Ds was 5 pounds at birth, but I think it's all strange and random and you can't tell the size even with scans!!

My DS2 was born 10 days early and was just over 8lbs, slightly heavier than DS1 who was born 10 days early and was 7lb 5oz. Very straightforward labour, gentle contractions during the day, an hour of big contractions and out he came at a fair rate of knots.

fastasleepinherownbed...

why could you not breasrfeed, does being jaundiced do this?

sorry for silly question but the only thing i thought that made breastfeeding not possible was babies being too small or tonguetied.

i would be upset if this happened as I am really looking forward to breastfeeding again, i loved feeding my dd.

had mild pains in the night in lower tummy, i guess its just everything softening up, this time i am so aware of every feeling, first time i didnt know what to look for and just expected things to happen when i was due.

3 weeks early with DS2! It was great, none of the hanging around waiting lark. He was 6.13 so glad didn't have to deliver a huge 40 weeker!!

Was a week early with 2nd child - felt twinges the day before but actual labour only really lasted about 6 hours possibly (I'm talking about the proper contractions where you have to stop what you are doing to cope with it). All very fast - no time for proper pain relief or anything. Had meant to use TENS machine - was great 1st time, but by the time I worked out I was in proper labour, almost too late to put it on!!

DD2 was 16 days early; I was hoping she'd be early or 'on time' as all the babies in my family are early (yes I know this is not a good basis for expecting it) and her sister was two days early, but it was a slight - if delightful - shock to get it over with. Labour was seven hours start to finish, much of it on MN - much easier than my previous 36 hour nightmare, home birth - and she weighed around seven pounds, I think.

3 weeks early, labour was much easier ( i knew what to expect and what to do etc).

first labour was 13 hrs

second was 5 hrs and MUCH more enjoyable ( although no less painful!)

Yes, I was a week early. He weighed 8lb 3oz and labour was FAST! I woke up about 4.30am feeling a bit niggly but not sure, still not very sure at 8am, thought I might to go hospital just to see if anything was going on - got there at about 9am feeling pretty fine and gave birth at 9.45am!

Yes

DS1 was born at 38 weeks 8lbs 22 hour labour in hospital. Not a bad birth but very long.

DS2 was born at 37.5 weeks 6lbs 7 oz 4 hour labour at home. Fab birth from beginning to end.

Being early (but not too early) takes all the pressure off (a lot of my friends were up against the 'induciton' nightmare) but I guess there is not a lot you can do about it. I was just lucky.

As you can see my second was much smaller and earlier than the first- not how its supposed to be.

Good luck

Both of mine were a week early.

DD 9Lb 12 oz (15 hrs of contractions...agony throughout!!)

DS 8lb 9 oz (6 hours of contractions...agony for last 2 hours)

Everyone kept joking that no.2 would weigh a stone (!?) after DD's weight...but I know several people now who have had smaller ones next time round. I don't think the weight affects your labour much anyhow but do believe that second time is generally easier as your body had already 'paved the way' as it were, before. Good luck.

DD1 - 2 weeks late, 8lb 4 (24 hours after induction)
DD2 - 5 days early, 6lb 12 (3 hours start to finish). only just made it to hospital assuming things would take much longer. and didn't turn my TENS up as i assumed the pain was going to get much worse and i was just being a wimp.

Am expecting no 3 in July but people keep telling me no 3 births are either very fast or on/off for ages - so who knows !

With my lot it was:

dd1 emergency c-sect after labouring for 21hrs, 1 week early, weighed 5lb 15oz
ds1 emergency c-sect after labouring for 14hrs, 3 weeks early, weighed 7lb 4oz
ds2 'urgent' c-sect after labouring for 4hrs, 5 weeks early, 6lb 7oz

All labours were spontaneous. With the third, it was meant to be an elective but I knew that I wouldn't last 39wks, even though I was in hospital when I went into labour it was 4 hours before they wheeled me down to theatre!

Good luck with no2, hope your wait isn't too long!
