Liverpool Women's or Ormskirk hospital???

Hi there
I've been reading up reviews (but they all seem quite dated) has anybody got any recent reviews on there birthing experiances at these hospitals as I really can't make up my mind... Ormskirk is slightly quicker and faster to get to,,, however the womens isnt that much further from me either...
I was swaying more towards Ormskirk but I also think that the women's might be more experienced?
The one thing I've got my heart set on is a water birth as I suffer terrible back pain and sitting in the bath seems to help me a lot!!
This is my first child and I'm a bit of a chicken anyway lol I'm due middle of April 2013...
Can any one help me make my choice??

I had my dd at ormskirk hospital and can't fault it really I went there on the recommendation of a few friends who had given birth there. Anything you want to know feel free to ask

I had my dd1 at Liverpool Women's and they were fantastic. There was always quite a lot of waiting around for antenatal appointments, but when I went into labour, the midwives were excellent and I felt we had very good care. I was on the labour ward as things didn't go completely to plan due to high blood pressure etc, so I couldn't have a water birth (they are only available on the midwife led unit). I think though that you can start on the midwife unit and move down to the labour ward if you need to (eg if you decide you'd like an epidural). I've just had my DD2 at the Countess of Chester, and they were also good, but the women's had a nicer room (with ensuite shower) on labour ward and felt a bit more high tech if you have complications.
I haven't been to Omskirk though so I'm afraid I can't comment on the care there.
If you're not too far from the Womens, I'd also recommend Jenni Jones' yoga class there (yogabumpsandbabies.co.uk).

Another vote for the Jenni yoga at the Women's hospital, very relaxing.
I used the birthing pool in LWH for some of my labour, and it was lovely. Very calming, nice dimmed room etc. Not sure how many pools they have though? But I wrote in my birthplan that I'd like to use it if available.

I gave birth to my dd and ds at ormskirk hospital and thought the hospital and midwives were excellent. I had no real complaints and they looked after me and my babies really well

both are brilliant just don't even think of fazakerley or whiston

ormskirk had two pools when I was there, may be more now. Very good set up. Have also been seen at the LWH and it was very efficient and caring.

Thanks guys I wonder if maybe I can ring them up and arrange a visit and discussion with Ormskirk... I would really love a water birth :-)

I hate to be negative, but I didn't have the best experience at Liverpool Women's last year.

The midwives with me when I was in active labour were okay (with definite reservations because I was told to push at 8/9 cm, resulting in a cs) but the aftercare was pretty bad.

The only person to give me information afterwards was the anaesthetist - I'd have been put back on a catheter if he hadn't come to see me the day after my crash cs.

Postnatal midwives expected me to know things and didn't tell me that I had to make certain checks on my baby - they made me feel stupid that I hadn't recorded how often I used the loo, for example. I was told I was being discharged on the second day but, after getting up early, showered and dressed, and waiting all day for the paediatrician (as well as being reassured that I would definitely be discharged by 8pm) a midwife told me at 7pm that they weren't willing to discharge me because I needed a blood transfusion based on blood levels after my cs - even though I declined, I still had to wait another day to be released.

Worst of all; I was insistent that I could look after my baby myself and that I would take charge of night feeds or whatever yet in my notes, a copy of which I bought afterwards, I found out my DD was taken away for 2 hours on the second night, before my original expected discharge, completely against my request to be woken if necessary. I charitably assume they did this with the best of intentions but I am furious that they took my baby away from me when I told them not to.

I went to Jenni's evening yoga class at the Women's and also her baby yoga course (which is in West Derby). Both were lovely - wish we still lived in Liverpool so I could have gone for my recent pregnancy.

Both are very good.

I had my 3 at LWH.
It is a busy hospital, and sometimes that shows postnatally if you by some chance end up in the high dependency ward, eg if you end up with a section. If you are prepared, though it is fine and the people who actually deal with you in labour (and in my case during c/s were fantastic)
I chose it over Ormskirk for the first 2 as it is much easier to get to on public transport, which meant it was easy for my mum to get there. I chose it for my third because they have a superb consultant midwife, who made it possible for me to have a VBA2C in the midwife-led unit, (even offered waterbirth etc but I didn't get there on time)
Several of my friends have had very good experiences at Ormskirk. Have you been for a look round?
