I'm going into hospital tomorrow to be induced at 39 weeks due to really bad spd, my consultant says they won't bother with sweeps and will go straight to gels and he's promised my baby will be here by xmas day.

However I had gels with DD1 as part of my waters had broke and they did nothing at all a week later i had to have the drip which did work. I really don't want things to be left that long again, I'm worried if the gels don't work they're just going to leave me again.

Is they're anything i can be doing to encourage the gels to work?

Has anyone got any good experience of the gels working?

The gel will only be used if it is not possible to break your waters. Has anyone checked you to see if this is possible because after already having one baby it it often is?

choc you have my sympathies. I was induced nearly three years ago with DD2 at 39 weeks due to awful SPD. Prostin worked for me, not the first lot but the second certainly did! I think your body knows what to do the second time round a bit better than the first Grin

Please do be careful though and ask for pain relief good and early. I had awful pelvic pain in between contractions and was left without pain relief for too long. This meant that I had to have a ventouse (though, to be fair, I may have needed one anyway as DD1 was ventouse) and the pain had got so bad, I literally couldn't get my knees apart so had to be done at a very odd angle Shock

Oh, and do see a physio afterwards. Although your SPD will feel miles better immediately, you will need to strengthen your pelvis gently.

Good luck Smile

If at all possible with your spd, walk as much as possible. I had no joy with the gel with ds1 and had to have waters broken 4 days later. With ds2 I paced the hospital corridors and he was born 10 hours after the gels. Good luck!
