Are my contractions starting?

Hi all, I'm 40+5 and no signs of labour as such (no show, no waters etc). However, this evening I've been getting quite strong Braxton Hicks, much stronger than usual but not painful, just uncomfortable, but they are only on one side.

Could these be my actual contractions starting?!

well at 40+5 I would guess something is happening.... is it period pain type ache? Thats how my early labours were

PPPop · 07/12/2012 20:15

Mine started like a period pain too. More of an ache than my BH which I had quite strong and persistently.

PPPop · 07/12/2012 20:15

Good luck though, won't be long soon whatever happens!

coffeeandcream · 07/12/2012 20:35

Hmm, no period type pains, just lots of tightenings. Will see what happens... :)

My contractions weren't painful at first and I wasn't sure whether they were just BH or not. I didn't have any period type pains at all, just tightenings like you that became more intense and frequent. I didn't have a show or breaking waters until labour was well established.
Assuming that this is your first, it may be some time before these tightenings develop into proper contractions. Don't hesitate to contact your mw for advice/ reassurance if you need it.
Good luck!

I wouldn't be surprised if you go into labour in a few hours...but then again, it could just be some BHs (have you been having them for several weeks already?) and labour could be days and days away.

Get going on the pineapple / walking / raspberry leaf tea / sex/ curry etc just in case!

Good luck!

Well I suppose I just have to be patient and relax! Am off for a bath and the dragging DH to bed ;)

ooh sounds promising! Try to get some sleep while you can.

Good luck! A show is a good sign, although it could be another few days. Or tonight might be the night!
