Great Western Swindon

Am moving there at 35 weeks pregnant, because I am living abroad there is no liaison with the NHS until I get there and register with a GP and Midwife.

I have been advised to have an ELCS.

Does anyone have any experiences of the hospital they would be happy to share?

Thank you

we're midway between GWH and JR in Oxford. I'm planning a home birth, but have heard good things about GWH, many of my friends have given birth there.
It's a new (less than 10 years old) hospital and was built with Swindon's growing population in mind. It's very efficient and over-resourced because of it.

I have had an elcs and a vbac at the GWH and can't fault it. Both birth experiences positive and after the elcs I was given a private room for free. You will be in good hands and the hospital itself is newish and clean. Good luck!

I chose Bath over Swindon because I didn't want Swindon on DS birth certificate. Blush

That's the last time I'll ever be a snooty cow.

Bath was awful, simply awful. I had such a bad experience. The first night there was one MW available for the whole ward. This was a few years ago.

Swindon on the other hand was being raved about by the mums in baby massage. Semi or private rooms, great facilities and support, it was spanking new at the time.

I'm not sure about ELCS obviously the aftercare would be different. But after one night in Bath I moved to Chippenham which was amazing. Fab team, good care, yummy puddings, plenty of rest.

Malmesbury used to get good reviews for care too, I don't know if it is still open.

I can't say enough good things about the Grear Western. I've had 2 babies there in the last 2 years. The facilities are fantastic and the staff were so lovely. Everyone made the time and effort to support us both times. And my other half loved the breakfast in the canteen, so much so that he keeps saying he's going to stop there instead of the services in future!

They've now also got the midwife led unit now. I didn't manage to get there but it's supposed to be great.

I'd recommend it to anyone. Thinking about it makes me almost want to have another baby!

Hello :) I'm writing this from Hazel ward in the GWH tonight awaiting my Elcs in the morning!
This is my second Elcs here and I can't recommend the care both before and after highly enough. I have high risk pgs due to being diabetic and have been in here since Monday as my bp is high too. I have honestly felt really well cared for and would recommend GWH every time, it's modern, well equipped and the staff are fantastic .

Oh and I can vouch for the private rooms too - I and one last time and am in one
Right now as they always seem to have loads available.
