What to look for in a doula?

Hi,

I'm looking into Doulas in my area and as its my 1st baby I was wondering what I should look out for?

I know I want someone that can help with breast feeding as I seem to have issues with that and ive been looking into hypnobirthing too vaguely.

I'll probably have a hospital birth.

Thanks!

Good plan to get a doula, I wish I'd had one for my 1st baby. The Doula UK website has a list of FAQs, I found it useful when calling and meeting them. My DH and I learnt a lot from meeting the doulas. Try and see 2-3 if you can. I liked all the doulas I met but with one I felt very calm and relaxed around her, so chose her. Good luck.

I wish I'd had one the first time.

I had one with dc 2 and dc3.

DH has always said since that NCT classes should be about how to find a doula followed by everyone down to the pub.
