So frustrated - what's going on?

I'm 40+1. Yesterday I had what felt like period pain all day (constant, not coming and going) and tightenings every 30mins or so. By about midnight they were roughly every 20mins. Decided the best thing to do was to go to bed as if things were starting to happen I needed to get some sleep.

It all stopped. Now getting tightenings again, roughly every 20mins. Bit of 'period pain'. But after yesterday I'm assuming it'll come to nothing again.

I know I'm not overdue until I go over 42 weeks but I'm just so fed up. I just want this baby out now xx

I would keep timing the 'period pains' if I were you

I've had the same all week. I think mine is related to baby being back to back and being engaged. Maybe labour starting, may not be. Agree its frustrating, even more so having hubby ask me every 30mins if I think baby is coming today! Like I'd wait till his head popped out before I'd let him know!

I am 41 +3 and I even bothering to get excited about the 'period pains' anymore. Am due to be induced on Monday and can't wait!

had that for several days and a friend told me i was going to have a fast labour (as my body was already working on it). It might have been a coincidence, but ds2 was born in 4 hours!

Thanks for all your messages. Things seem to have stopped again. I now feel sick and have suddenly got really tired so am off to bed. Maybe tomorrow will be the day! xx

Is this first baby or a subsequent birth?
This happened to me for weeks before having DC2, then eventually at 41 weeks n after a day of 'tightenings' waters broke n proper labour began.
Think this kind of thing is quite common with subsequent births. I'm gonna guess that it isn't first baby as you seem to know the difference between the different pains?
Basically it could be the start of labour but if its not its likely that its not far away. One way or another things are starting to happen for you x

I often find that women who have a long and dispiriting latent phase often have a speedy and efficient active phase. My colleague and I speculate its because the cervix is so "prepped" that it then dilates really well.

Mayhew - I really hope so! This baby is breech and I've gone into labour twice now and both times it's stopped again. Getting so fed up xx

Poppyprincess - this is my 2nd. DS is 8 though so it's been a while and labour with him started very differently. I woke up in the early hours of the morning with contractions every 5mins - no signs at all before that. So this is very different for me xx

Wkmum I wrote a very similar post before my dd was born. I had a good week of false labor, every evening. Don't know if it was to do with the false labour pains, but I certainly had speedy active phase of labour- 2 hours from 3cm to birth. my DD was back to back, and I heard that if baby is not in optimum position, labour can be difficult to get established hence the false labour pains. Perhaps that is what is happening as your baby is breech?
