Mirena coil

I gave birth to DD 8 weeks ago and went to have Mirena coil fitted on Friday. This is my second coil as I already have a 5 year old son. The Dr did not mention using any additional contraception (I told her I had a period 11 days ago) and it says in the Mirena leaflet that it is effective straight away. However on further investigation I have read that it is only effective straight away if fitted within 7 days of the start of your period! My husband and I had a moment of weakness on Sunday where we did have penetration (all for a whole 30 seconds as I panicked about falling pregnant!!) but he did not ejaculate (TMI sorry!!). Please can someone reassure me that everything will be ok as I am worried sick as there is no way I want another baby!

I woud think it is very unlikely that you are pregnant - The coil acts in a number of ways and one of those is stopping the sperm as a function of the coil being in your womb as well as the hormone stopping ovulation..

I would speak to your GP but I would think there is little can be done now as you are outside the window for mAP, although they may be able to prescribe the pill to be taken as well for a few weeks.

Sorry not to be more helpful and I can sense you are worrying but would think it a very slim chance even if you had gone the whole hog.....
