Pooing in childbirth

Ds and his friend (both 7) have been having a lengthy discussion while watching the football, I haven't been listening.

... "Mummy? Mummy? It can't happen, can it"

"What, dear?"

"If you were having a baby and the poo came out at the same time and the baby could get poo on it."

"Oh yes, dear, it happens quite often, actually"

. "Really?"

"Yep"

"Uuugggh that's disgusting, I am so glad I am not having a baby in my tummy...."

I've scarred them for life haven't I? :)

I wonder how he would have reacted if you replied 'You got some poo on you when you were born'

legalalien · 14/11/2012 20:40

I can answer that as he asked me and I told him that I didn't. His friend is going to ask his mum.....

The first thing my DS did when born and laid on my chest was to poo on me ... I will have that to hold against him if he asks me the same questions as your DS asked you!!!

I am a youth worker and was rather mortified at work recently when one of the young ladies loudly announced to everyone that women poo whilst pushing their babies out. I had to not only admit it true, but also admit that yes I had, to several dozen curious (and rather horrified) teenagers. It has now become a popular talking subject (among the young people) with lots of what if synarios being suggested.

It really was my preference not to spend my pregnancy discussing with teenagers the possibilities of pooing whilst in labour. Blush

Apparently I pooed on myself when I was born - handed to my mum covered in shite.

Just tell him the truth, that new babies poo on themselves all the time and it's fine, because like everything else, sick, snot, felt pen ( yes, my ds did draw all over his newborn sister) it washes off, and everything will be just peachy after a nice bath.
