I am exclusively feeding but didn't know it would take this long? I went on the pill after dd1 and that made them come back. I've done pregnancy tests but negative..

I've also been very moody and mega spot breakout. Maybe hormone imbalance from no period?

Ds was one before mine returned and even then they were all over the place. It's def the feeding, some people's don't return until they stop completely.
Enjoy it whilst it lasts Smile

Prolactin (produced when suckling) inhibits ovulation. Ovulation triggers the menstrual cycle. It varies from woman to woman how much prolactin they need to stop their cycle. Some women get their periods back as soon as the baby goes longer than 5 hours between feeds eg overnight, others not until they've completely weaned.I had my first period exactly 3 weeks after my last breast feed.

Mine didn't return until a couple of months after stopping BFing - around the year mark each time.

AuntPepita · 10/11/2012 00:53

18 months and still waiting...

Littleraysofsunshine · 10/11/2012 07:38

QTpie, my skin and hormones are at their best when I'm pregnant!

My sister EBF her DD and her periods came back after 10/11 months.

I never managed to BF my DD, just expressed for about 3/4 weeks, and men came back after 12 weeks.

unexpectediteminbaggingarea · 10/11/2012 09:47

mine came back after 15 months, both times. spots and moodiness for me means period on its way.

carrielou2007 · 10/11/2012 10:02

Ebf both my dc, neither went longer than 3/4 hours day it night and after dd it returned when she was 10 weeks, 8 weeks with ds. I was robbed! Having a break now as pregnant again Smile

LadyWidmerpool · 10/11/2012 10:05

Fourteen months! Came back when baby started regularly sleeping for 5 hours + in one go.

ISeeThreadPeople · 10/11/2012 10:12

The average time for them to come back is over 12 months if you're bfing. Can't remember exactly but it's over a year.

Mine came back at 12 weeks first time round and 12 months second time round. Bore no relation to how much or how they fed.

aimingtobeaperfectionist · 10/11/2012 10:29

Roughly 8 weeks after DD born. Am still ebf at 6 months so was quite upset- felt I'd been short changed! She has slept through from about 6 weeks though so that's probably why. Back on the pill again so period free thank god.

MakeHayNotStraw · 10/11/2012 10:31

Mine were 14 months for dd and 16 months for ds (still night-feeding). Enjoy the absence!

chocolateicecream · 10/11/2012 18:54

aimingtobe... I know exactly what you mean about feeling short changed. With my first I EBF for 8 months, no longer than 2-3 hr's between feeds in day and spent practically all night on the boob. With my second periods resumed at 6 months despite tandem nursing for 18 months. Pregnant again and still BF second child so will see how things go with this time round.

My sister breast fed, but 4 months after the birth of DC2, she still did not have a period and her face looked podgy. She had a Thyroid blood test and was diagnosed with an underctive one Hypothyroidism. She takes thyroxine tablets to supplement the lack of it and has had no side effects at all. The only other symptom she noticed was dry skin, when she had always had a more greasy skin.

digerd · 10/11/2012 20:58

oops underactive Thyroid Gland

nannyl · 10/11/2012 21:42

mine took 365 days

i would say 1 year but being a leap year it wasnt quite!

ErmahgerdBlahdyCold · 10/11/2012 21:47

I went 20 months without a period after having DS2, he did feed regularly at night up until then though.

devonsmummy · 10/11/2012 21:48

Mine came back after 22 months with DS
25 months (I think!) with dd

JiltedJohnsJulie · 10/11/2012 21:53

18 months with both of mine, its only of the lovely benefits of bfingSmile
