Concerned for my DSIL

DSIL is in hospital, 38 weeks pg, was admitted with high BP and some protein in her urine. Some anomalies have shown up on her ECG as well. She has other health issues which are well controlled, but which meant she will have a consultant obstetrician at her labour as well as other specialists.

She's not sleeping as she's on the antenatal ward with other ladies in active labour. She's exhausted and wants to go home but is being kept in and they're talking about inducing her but of course it's nearly the weekend so I guess they won't do anything till Monday unless there's an emergency.

Part of me wants them just to schedule a C section, just for her to have an "end point" in mind, if you follow me. I feel really worried for her, and I can't do anything constructive! Plus I can't even visit as the ward won't allow children to visit (except your own) and I can't find anyone to foist my DC on!!

I just wanted someone to hold my (and her) hand a bit, really. Thanks.

NHS cuts done away with the ante-natal wards,I was admitted to one with high bp with ds1 but by the time ds 2 came along I had to spend the night on the labour ward as they were concerned with the fetal heart rate,it didnt lead to a good nights sleep.
Hope you get some good news soon,I know its a cliche but she,s in the right place.

Thank you. We've heard she's definitely there till Monday at least. I'm just hoping she'll be able to sleep at some point, she's so miserable. Thanks for your support.

Would an ipod or similar help?May drown out the noise,apart from the obvious noises of women in labour I found the comings and goings disturbed me,its the one ward in the hospital that seems to be busier at night than in the daytime.Is she allowed internet access,it seems to vary from ward to ward whats allowed nowadays,the boredom would drive me crackers.

Yep she's facebooking periodically, so she's got her mobile and Internet. I was stuck in hospital for just a couple of days after DS1 was born and remember feeling completely miserable at being there, and I had my lovely new baby to hold and coo over!

I hadn't thought of an iPod. She might have but I'll suggest it anyway! Hopefully I'll be able to visit her soon, and I can pop some earplugs in too! :) thanks for the suggestion!

I was on an antenatal ward for a week with exactly the same thing and miserable as anything. Things to take:

• a spare pillow if you've got one going
• a book or magazine
• some decent food! How they manage to make unmeltable ice cream is something I'm not prepared to think about. A meal deal from the nearest supermarket would be infinitely welcome IME.
• earplugs

Can you foist the DC onto your DBro for 20 minutes outside the ward? Tell him it's good practice :o

Lol SlightlySuperior, like it! Yep, I'm going to get in to see her this weekend by hook or by crook. She managed to get some sleep last night and it sounds like it's made a world of difference.

How are things today?Glad she managed to get some sleep.

They let her out! A consultant said that because she was just hanging around to see another specialist, she could come home and go back as an outpatient. Sorry for not updating yesterday - twas my birthday party which sucked but that's another story, so glad she was out as I'd have just spent the whole evening worrying.
