Bricking it! being induced tomorrow

This is DC3 and am 41+11, +12 tomorrow.
DS1 was 6 days late, DS2 only 2 so this is all new and scary.

To add to the worry, I had DS's in the (very) local MLU but obviously have to go to the 'proper' hospital which is around 40 mins away, and I hate it, well I hate most hospitals, but particularly this one!

The MW I spoke to Tuesday said if I don't start contracting within 6 hours I will get sent home again.

I'm dreading it being a long, drawn out, back and forth type saga. Especially as DS's will obviously be being looked after. DH won't be allowed to stay either and that terrifies me.

DH seems to think we'll get there at 2 and be home by 12 with a baby! I really hope this is the case but it seems quite unlikely.

Can you ask to have a C-section after a certain amount of time? I have heard so many horror stories from this hospital of people being in labour for days then having to have an ECS anyway.

Sorry, this is very long and moany, just need to get it down as if I speak to anyone in RL I shall just cry and may not stop!

Please please don't worry! I've had 4dc, 3 inductions. All labours were quick, each induction I started contracting within 2 minutes of waters being broken. As it's your 3rd baby they usually just break your waters to induce you. I'm sure you'll start contracting soon after. They give you the 'talk' about drips, walking around etc, but honestly, it's not always needed... Mine were all very very positive! and quick! with my 4dc they broke my waters, 10 mins later I needed to push!

MW didn't say anything about breaking my waters, just the whole gel and walk talk!

Also, she said it was a 6 bed bay, does that mean all this goes on with an audience?!

With 3rd baby the usual way to induce is just by breaking waters, so I assume that's what will happen. If it is by breaking waters then that will be done in delivery suite. If for some reason they're going to use gel then that will be done in 6 bedded room with curtains drawn for privacy. As soon as you go into labour you'll be transferred to private delivery suite. I think they give you whole talk as worst case scenario. Ask when you go in why they're using gel and not just breaking waters.

There may be an audience if it is just the pessary as often nothing happens for a while. I was induced due to my waters going early so went straight to the drip. If this happens have the epidural first!

Haven't been induced, although was due to be and I was told once they start the process there is no going home without a baby! Guess its different everywhere - GL, you'll be fine :)

The going home thing is a new policy there apparently, I prefer the sound of the 'no going home til you're done' one!

Tuesday mw couldn't do a sweep as cervix still behind baby's head (I think that's what she said afterwards, she used a bit of a strange polo neck analogy I lost whilst trying not to pass out!).
I presume this means baby wasn't ready.

Will the pessary/waters breaking make baby come even if they're still not ready??

You still have time! With dc2, my waters broke at 8pm the night before I was supposed to go in to be induced and she was out by 10.30pm
I was induced with dc1 and it was honestly fine, fairly bog standard labour, don't listen to the induction horror stories, there are plenty of us with positive tales to tell!

I was due to be induced with DS1 but avoided it by hours like you Whispers, just not hopeful this time!

That may be why they're starting with a pessary - position of cervix etc.. but yes, once you're started, you're started

Could have baby same day, or within a few days. Either way you'll have your much waited for arrival.

I had DC3 2 weeks ago in similar circumstances to you. DC1 was 7 days late, DC2 was 9 days late with no need for induction... Went in to be induced at 42+1 and I was also worried about whether the baby was ready to come etc... The pessary was used to soften up the cervix so they could break my waters. It did take a while to fully kick in enough (24 hours) but once they could break the waters, they did and he was born 90 mins later. All the midwives I spoke to were very reassuring and said 'don't worry, it's your third, once we manage to tip you into labour it'll mostlikely be nice and quick'. I was worried about monitoring and not being able to walk around but you've got some time (at least a few hours) after they break the waters before they need to start continuous monitoring, drip etc etc and apparently with a third child, most people don't need all of that... Good luck!

Well, we made it without being induced amazingly!

Had a quick (3 hours from phoning to baby) waterbirth in the MLU, no dramas, no stitches. Lots of pain and a flipping nightmare delivering placenta, but all now well.

Scarlett was 9lb 3oz and is currently snuffling away next to me .
DS1 and DS2 very happy with their baby sister too.

And having a girl is such fun - I had 2 DS then a girl, and was quite daunted really (we certainly weren't trying for a girl or anything!) and she has added such a great dynamic to our family.
