Arnica Tablets for swelling

Hi All,

I am expecting my 2nd baby in 2 weeks time, and would appreciate some advice from you. With DS, I started taking Arnica tablets about 3 days after the birth (as this is the first time Midwife mentioned them).

Have been told by current midwife that I can begin taking them during 2nd stage of labour.

Does anyone know what strength tablets I can take, as midwife wasn't sure. Also does anyone have any other advice / opinions on Arnica.

Many Thanks
Jenny

Hi, Jenny. I don't know about during labour, but I took 6c arnica two tablets every 2 hours for the first 6 doses, then 4 times a day after my ds. Mil got them for my so I assume that's the right dose (though you never know...Wink) I couldn't tell you if they worked or not really, having nothing else to compare them to, but I'm sure they didn't do any harm so they're worth it in my book. HTH and good luck! Smile

Oops, sorry, meant to say mil got them and she's a pharmacist, so assume it's the right dose... Read before posting! Read before posting!

can say I am sure it helped me heal quicker and better from my second c-section. Did not know about it when I had the first one. With no2 was fine within 3 weeks. I took them as soon as I was back on the ward after the op but I think you can take them before hand - justnot sure. There have been plenty of threads with the info you are asking for if you have time to do a search ( i am on for jsut a bit before I have to do the school run otherwise I would try and search them out for you)

My hospital wouldn't let me take them whilst I was in Sad
Had to smuggle them down Wink

i was advised aby homeopath to take arnica 200c as its stronger which is what you need for childbirth! and yes take before during and after..they worked well for me plus all the other homeopathic pills during labour

I was about to post about arnica 200c but was pipped at the post by bambi06. So will second her recommendation. I did the same and gave birth (naturally) to a 10lb boy (had stitches) and needed no pain relief afterwards (and I believe that was partly due to taking the arnica beforehand). FWIW as a dentist I always recomend patients take arnica before extractions to assist in healing/discomfort etc.

Glad somebody has posted about arnica. Can anyone advise about using the cream? The current Boots pregnancy magazine advises some for your labour bag so I duly bought some. However, on reading the enclosed leaflet it specifically says 'do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding'. Was hoping to use it post birth but will be breastfeeding. Anyone?

homeopathic or herbal?
Am assuming people referring to oral mean homeopathic, but what about the cream?
