How long did it take for your perineal tear to heal?

Hi,

My DD is 6 weeks old - labour wasn't bad (7lb baby) with just a graze (healed) and a 1st degree perineal tear. They didn't stitch my tear. It was sore after a week - a swab revealed step B so I had a round of antibiotics. A week or so later it was getting very sore again so had a round of penicillin - how long did it take for your tear to heal? It still looks a bit red and raw in places and I am still touching my toes and using a water bottle when I wee as otherwise it stings. Got my 6 wk GP check up this week. How long should it take?

I wouldn't expect it to still be red and raw 6 weeks on, I'd mention to the GP at your check.
However, in terms of normal functionality, ie sex etc, it can be a lot longer. My tear was a third degree though so maybe it's different for a first. HTH.
