Who DIDN'T have pain from the perineum when passing urine after labour?

I was assured I'd need to pour water over myself and that it'd hurt etc etc so was fully prepared - yet nothing of the sort. From the very first one, nothing hurt. I had an episiotomy so yes there are stitches there, yet no stinging... Happy me :) yet I'm curious - why? Did the doctor stitching me up just do a fantastic job?

After DD1 it hurt a little, DD2 not at all and I had 2 second degree tears and stitches.

1st post labour poo though - ouch!!

Imnotaslimjim · 17/09/2012 21:20

I had a lot of stitches down there, but had no stinging. But I do drink water by the gallon and the MW explained its because the urine is quite dilute if you drink enough. A lot of people don't, so the urine stings on its way passed

I had a 3rd degree tear with stitches and I had no pain. And no problems with constipation either which everyone was going on about constantly.

MolotovBomb · 17/09/2012 21:21

I share your experience, OP: all fine where that was concerned and first post-partum poo was sensation-less also ... I was quite numb, to be fair. A 2-hour push-fest followed by an episiotomy and ventouse delivery. It wasn't until DH and I tried to resume our sex-life that I realised how painful perineums can be.

But that story is for a different thread!

ISpyPlumPie · 17/09/2012 21:25

I didn't, but didn't have any stiches either. Glad to hear that it doesn't necessarily hurt even if you do have stiches though in case I don't get away so lightly this time.

ToothyMcTooth · 17/09/2012 21:30

Had stitches with all 3 and no pain weeing although I did lean forward a lot weeing so it went straight into the loo iykwim. I also mainlined prune juice to avoid poo-problems.

Could hardly walk for a week after ds1 so I deserved a break somewhere!

CouvelaireHair · 17/09/2012 21:32

You tend to get stinging when you graze your labia at the front, not on your perineum.
I had no perineal tears, but I did tear my labia so every time I weed it went straight onto my open wound there. Sad i had to wee in the bath for a week. Blush

Jakeyblueblue · 17/09/2012 21:59

I had loads of stitches and a graze and weeing was pure HELL for about a week. Not sure if it was the graze or the stitches that hurt but the stinging was awful. Took my breath away!

Mrscog · 17/09/2012 22:05

I didn't have any pain (despite 2nd degree tear) but I was RELIGIOUS about pain relief for the first 2 weeks so I don't know if that had anything to do with it - I took paracetamol and ibuprofen.

HarlettOScara · 17/09/2012 22:09

I had a 2nd degree tear but no pain weeing. I do drink a lot of water though so my pee would have been very dilute. Also had no problem with constipation which had been a bit of an issue pre birth (probably due to iron tablets as much as anything else).

Had an episiotomy and stitches and no pain on peeing. Area was a little sore but they kept giving me morphine in the hospital and then voltarol to take home so I guess it worked.

fuckbadger · 17/09/2012 23:05

I didn't at all with dc1 but I had an episiotomy so just one injury down there which meant it was easy to angle myself so I didn't pee on it iyswim.

With dc2 I had 2 second degree tears which were stitched and three labial grazes and for the first ten days after birth it felt like peeing razor blades every time!

elizaregina · 18/09/2012 09:38

I had labial tear which MW told me stung more than perenial....i didnt tear or hurt perenial at all.

She wasnt too bothered about it but i was crying with pain of loo and shower for a good ten days with a small un sticthed tear - i was scared to drink liquids as scared of loo, but i did.

elizaregina · 18/09/2012 09:39

ie everyone goes on about perenium but it seems labia damage is more painful as fuck says - peeing razor blades! no one mentioned that!

Pleasenomorepeppa · 18/09/2012 21:07

Me! Ad 2nd degree tear & was properly worried about my first pee. No pain at all. Really worried about pooing too. Again it was fine.
It throbbed a bit in general though!

Aliglobetrek · 18/09/2012 22:54

I had an episiotomy and didn't have pain peeing either, am also worried about no 2 though!

Metalhead · 19/09/2012 10:01

I had 2nd degree tears, labial tear and lots of stitches and still no pain from weeing! Mind you, I was in agony from the tears etc and couldn sit for weeks. Maybe everything was just so swollen the wee didnt actually get to where the stitches were...

5madthings · 19/09/2012 10:05

it depends where the tear/cut is and if wee goes on it! i always had a jug in the bathroom and poured lukewarm water on my bits as i weed, so NO stinging, not even when i had a labial graze as they can sting like buggery!

my midwife recomended it when i had ds1 and i did it with all five, it works a treat :)

Xnic · 19/09/2012 10:20

I had a couple of stitches and a labia tear. I was only pushing for five mins. It hurt like hell and I had to pee in the shower or use a lukewarm jug for a week it was so bad!
