Hello,
I'm new here, so bear with me, but wanted to see if anyone else has been in a similar situation to me, and if so, what you were advised.
I have two kids, both born by emergency c-section, my last one being in May this year. I think I may have freaked the registrar out a bit as the section took ages, and the consultant was called in during it to take over as I lost 1.7L of blood and she obviously felt a bit out of her depth. At the end of the surgery, I asked the registrar what had happened, she said there was loads of scar tissue from my previous section, and my uterus was very thin as a result. She had had to make a new incision on the uterus itself as the first was like a 'very thin water balloon about to pop' (her words), leaving me now with two scars on my womb (but only 1 external scar). She definitively said I should not have any more children, but after the operation, the consultant said 'I'm sorry' to my husband (presumably because it had been pretty stressful for him) and when my husband asked him if we could have any more children the consultant said we would discuss it the next day.
The next day on the ward round, the registrar still said I shouldn't have any more babies, as did the senior house officer, but the consultant kind of brushed it all off, saying I would need an elective at 38 weeks, but should just make sure I dont go for a fourth one! My GP has since said the consultants opinion is best, but the registrar and SHO were so sure I shouldnt get pregnant again that I don't know what to believe.
So now I'm terribly confused and a bit worried, I have an appointment to see the consultant in October, but knowing my hospital, I will end up seeing some registrar and they will err on the side of caution and tell me not to have any more. The problem is, both my husband and I really want 3 kids. Obviously we won't if the consultant advises against it. I just wondered if this sort of thing was fairly common?
Thanks ladies in advance!
