Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has either had an ELCS or a VB at UCLH in London recently, and how was their experience?

Thank you x

Hi. I'm 22 pg with DC2 & am booked into UCH. Have heard a mixed bag of reviews. At my last Midwife app he asked me why I'd chosen them over The Whittington as UCH have more negative patient reviews!!
I'm considering swapping to The Whit now!

Sorry I've not been much help!

Oh dear! Where can you read patient reviews do you know? So far have heard good things, as apparently they specialise in difficult births and so have a lot of specialists and are very well equiped in that way...and apparently their average wait after requesting an epidural is 30 minutes which i thought was very good!

It was a NHS choices website. It basically seems that the standard of care is not great, unsympathetic Midwives etc. When I had DD1 in 2009 at the Whittington I had a horrid time, lack of Midwives, lack of beds etc & swore I'd never go back! 3 years on I'm now undecided!!
So far everything has been ok at UCH, but because of my high BMI, they seem to be v keen to force a more medicated birth on me despite my otherwise good health & fitness level.
When I spoke to my Midwife friend about it, she was a bit confused as to why I was considered so high risk!
I'm v v confused now!!

Have you seen a consultant? Maybe it would be worth making an appointment with a consultant to see what they think about the midwife's recommendations so far.. I dont know the Whittington, but so far have had a good vibe from UCH, they seem to be supportive and the hospital seems clean and new which is good. But not sure how the actual Labour ward is as they dont offer a tour of it!

Hope you manage to sort everything out and make a decision
