Epidural - did not work with DD1 - any point trying with DD2?

I was induced with DD1 - contractions were very painful when I was put on the drip so I had an epidural. I fully expected it to take the pain away but it did not Sad DH claims I did appear to be in a bit less pain than I was before I had it, but I think it only took the edge off the pain. Does anyone have experience of an epidural not working but having had another that did work? My pain threshold is not high, so I would definitely consider having one again with DD2 (due end November) if I thought it would actually make any difference. Are there actually some unlucky people for whom they just don't work?

Mine failed for DC1, but DC2 was fine.

I have always suspected that the anaesthetist for DC1 was incompetent rather than it being me!
